Questions / What is "Computation Error (-5,)" ?
March 10, 2021, 09:56:44 PM
The History display Status column sometimes shows "Reported: Computation error (-5,)", in my case running MilkyWay@Home GPU tasks.
1) What is this error?
2) Is there a list of all error codes that can show up in the Status column?
Thanks for the help.

Questions / Wallclock Rule: No New Tasks
January 12, 2012, 03:02:28 PM
Greetings. I use a wallclock rule in BoincTasks 1.30 to set my World Community Grid project to 'No more work' (No new tasks) for a 1-hour period (16:00:00 to 17:00:00) to allow another project to start a new task, and the rule works fine. However the project status remains at 'No new tasks' after the rule expires. I added a rule at 17:30:00 to 'Resume Project', but at 17:35:00 the project status was still 'No new tasks'. Both of the rules are triggered within 3 minutes of their designated times, according to the Rules Log display.

Can you let me know how to create a rule that will set the project status to 'Allow more work' (Allow new tasks) either automatically when the 'No more work' rule expires, or with an additional rule? If there was an 'Allow more work' (Allow new tasks) option in the Rule editor Event list, I could easily solve this problem.

Thanks, Art Brown

Wish List / New Rule Type: Task Count
January 07, 2012, 08:34:16 PM
Greetings.
I'd like to limit World Community Grid tasks to no more than 3 at any one time, and perhaps the following new rule type would allow this:

Rule #1: "If World Community Grid has 3 or more more tasks, No more work"
Rule: WCG No More Work
Computer: computer1
Project: World Community Grid
Application:
Type: Task Count
Operator: >=
Value: 3
Event: No more work

Rule #2: "If World Community Grid has less than 3 tasks, Resume project"
Rule: WCG Resume Project
Computer: computer1
Project: World Community Grid
Application:
Type: Task Count
Operator: <
Value: 3
Event: Resume project

Comments and suggestions welcome. Thanks, Art Brown

FAQ / Re: Rules
November 10, 2011, 08:07:14 PM
If you want to define rules based on the name of an executable program, such as a specific BOINC task, Process Lasso from Bitsum Technologies lets you do that, including defining disallowed processes. I use Process Lasso to assign CPU affinities and priorities to my BOINC tasks, but you might try disallowing the processes (tasks) that you don't want to run. Process Lasso won't stop the BOINC task from being downloaded, but it will stop a task if it matches the rule you create. Rules can include the * wild card, so one rule can be set up that applies to a range of process names. Process Lasso is free for home and educational users at http://www.bitsum.com/

Thanks! That did it.

PBKAC problem solved: Problem Between Keyboard And Chair

I get it now.

The 3rd GPUGRID entry in the Tasks tab says "2[Tasks]", rather than showing each task on its own line, as BOINC Manager does.

So I guess my request would be to show each task on its own line all the time, just to make the user interface a bit more straight forward.

I noticed that sometimes, but not always, only 3 of 4 GPUGRID tasks show up in the BOINC Tasks Tasks tab on Ver. 1.09, but BOING Manager (Ver. 6.10.58) always shows the correct number. Restarting BOINC Tasks does not clear the problem. When the symptom occurs, the BOINC Tasks Message tab shows the "reached the limit of 4 GPU tasks" message for the GPUGRID data request, but only 3 GPUGRID tasks are shown on the Tasks tab. Windows 7 Home Premium 64, Service Pack 1, 6GB RAM, 3.2 GHZ Intel Core i7 920. Thanks for a nice alternative to BOINC Manager! Some very nice and useful features!
