Wish List / Re: Filter messages

I haven't asked for a new feature in awhile, so:

It would be helpful to be able to do a quick filter of Messages by project, similar to "Show only this project" in BOINCMgr.  It would be easy to go overboard with filtering Messages by various criteria, but I think this simple one would be very helpful.  As an example, I often like to check my CPDN tasks to see when the last trickle-up report was sent.  This tends to get lost among the Messages on a quad/GPU host with 10~15 tasks either Running or Waiting--especially if I have any debug logging switches turned on ;)

Prioritize this however you see fit.

Best wishes.
Done, but my priorities are not always that logical. ;D Sometimes I pick an easy one along.

I noticed during the discussion of glenaxl's Shift+click bug: you said
Quoteselect the first item, press shift and select the last,
which of course is exactly right 8)  The thing is, I've noticed that on the Task, Transfers, Messages or History tabs, you can block select rows either from the top down or bottom up.  But on the Projects tab you can only select a block of rows from the top down--bottom up will not work.  But on any tab you can Ctrl+click (extended select) in either direction.

I'm posing this as a question rather than a bug, because I'm just curious--what is different about the Projects list from the other tabs that makes it behave this way?  I've always assumed that BT uses a simple spreadsheet- or flat file database-type table structure, to allow for the various datatypes you have to display and manipulate.  (Don't feel obligated to disclose any "trade secrets") ;D

Best wishes.
I was just working on that and noticed the bug in the projects. I changed something more in the selection. for all other tabs to make it more consistent with Windows. See the change list.

No it's not that simple as with a spreadsheet. BT uses the MFC (C++) highly adapted class CListViewEx. It connects to the Window API, as this sort of list are quite common, so it's part of the OS, sort of.
Most tabs use a selection class that handles all the selection stuff. But somethings make selection more complicated, like the tasks list that is constantly changing.
So I have to lock on a specific task and computer to keep the selection synchronized.

Questions / Re: Meaning of "Project Backoff"
April 21, 2010, 11:15:18 PM

Hi everybody,

what does mean "Project Backoff" the translations I've found in the web there are not satisfactory
I think, something like "Abandoning / abandoned Project" ??

this is to translate into Spanish, but I should have to know more or less what is the meaning,
never mind the answer in English, just to now what is that??

thanks in advanced.
It's in the transfer, and the same text is in BOINC Manger.
It's similar to: Retry in, but than for all the upload/download of the entire project.
All upload of the project will wait for the Backoff time, overriding any Retry in time.
Simple to test unplug the Internet and when the upload tries, it will go into project backoff in a couple of times. (only visible in BoincManager for now of course.

Fatal error in language file; Group: <GroupMenuComputer> string header in pos 115, <Computers> not found; Only exist in ENU though.

quick fix is to modify: BoincTasks_ENU.btlang and insert the line
"   <Computers>      Computers      </>"
under
<GroupMenuComputer>

So it would look like this:
<GroupMenuComputer>
<Detect> Find computers </>
<Add> Add computer </>
<Remove> Remove computer </>
<ConnectCombined> Connect combined </>
<Connect> Connect </>
<Computers> Computers </>
</GroupMenuComputer>

I've checked this too and the solution you say is the one I've applied and works.
I posted the new corrected installer with the same name. After starting it reports 0.51.1 with the correct language file.
This happens when you use Cut Paste instead of Copy Paste, out of the original English file.
And a last minute change like this one is never wise.

A note of caution:

This defeats an intended security feature of the virus scanner. It may make the virus scanner more vulnerable to threads.

FAQ / Throttle virus scanner
April 18, 2010, 10:12:11 PM
Jim wrote this nice article that may help others.

Summary:
o Comodo and avast! virus scan overheating solutions with TThrottle
o Rules question
o Configuration

1. Comodo and avast! virus scan overheating solutions
I'm running a GigaByte EX58-UD3R-SLI board (i7 processor) under Vista 64. I worked the last two days with TThrottle 1.75 trying to overcome a heating problem when BOINC tasks and COMODO Internet Security virus scans are running at the same time. I saw the hint on your forum to try Avast!, but this displays the same problem.

It turns out that both comodo and avast! have self protection features that disable throttling the scans. I've attached a PDF file with screen shots and instructions to disable these features and restore temperature control by TThrottle. The "protection" appears to make these exe files run as "SYSTEM"  rather than "Administrator" or "User". With the Task Manager, you can see the change.

See pdf below.

Jim uses the rules tab throttle.
