Wish List / Re: String sorting case-sensitive

After "desperately seeking my rosetta@home project for a couple of seconds long", I've noticed that the projects are alphabetically listed case-sensitively, i.e. first the projects which names begin with a capital characters, followed by projects beginning with lower case characters.

Could the sorting be done in a case-insensitive way?
Changed in lower case compare for V 0.27

- Rebooting the BOINC client and/or stopping the projects.

This would be nice.  At the moment I'm suspending tasks in case I need to use the CPU for something else.  :)  When I'm done, I resume the tasks.  No big deal I suppose.
In 0.27 there will be a stop BOINC client in the File menu. File -> Close BOINC client.
And a Start BOINC client to start it again without leaving BoincTasks.

I've seen the exchange of that in version 0.26, but there is something curious.

e.g. AP beta, is a long time processing WU, BT reports during the firsts hours
0.01 .... 0.99 while BM is reporting 0.01 ... X.yz different, when BT arrives to
1.00 it immediately exchange to BM reading some of the cases 3x.xz %  and
now till the end of processing both are showing the same reading (BT and
the BOINC Manager)
That's correct < 1% I take the progress time divided by the ext time to completion. In that way I have an immediate % right from the start. Otherwise it may take up to a minute or a lot more for a WU to show actual progress.
It's a compromise... and AP tasks aren't that accurate in timing anyway.

Thanks a lot for the tip. With it, I was able to identify my precise processor family (Family: Fh, Model: 2F, Stepping: 2) and perform some experiments here.

Fortunately, I still have XP in dual-boot with Windows 7 here in the same computer. So, I installed 32-bit TThrottler on XP and compared it with NextSensor's readings. Initially, I noticed there was a difference of about 35 degrees between them. So, I changed the "AMD Factor" from 49 to 14. TThrottler came close, but still 1-3 degrees below NextSensor's readings, in a non-linear, narrowly oscillating relationship.

The stress program provided with TThrottler had no effect at all, perhaps because it uses idle cycles as well, and then AMD Cool'n'Quiet throttles the processor by itself. I could tweak the parameters, but I found it easier to run SuperPI instead to stress the processor. Still an average of 2 degrees lower than NextSensor's readings under stress. So I changed the factor to 11, and TThrottler was consistently 2 degrees over NextSensor's readings. Too much correction. Then I tried 12. TThrottler was still an average 2 degrees above when the system was idle, but under stress the two programs matched almost exactly.

So, it seems 12 is the ideal value for XP in my PC, but I found it better to err on the side of caution and use 11 on Windows 7 (and use 66 rather than 68°C as the throttling threshold). Then I ran SuperPI again on Windows 7. Unfortunately, it didn't throttle. Temperature reached 69°C (as displayed by Throttler's floating bar) and I aborted SuperPI. After it cooled back down to the 40s, I ran Throttler again, this time as Administrator, and repeated the SuperPI test. Again, it reached 69°C, when there was a rule for Throttler to trigger at over 66°C. In such cases, NextSensor instantly cools my processor by some 5 or 6°C, albeit just for a few seconds before the processing heats the processor again. I was expecting something like that.

It seems Throttler is really incompatible with my processor. It accurately shows the change in temperature, but seems unable to do anything about it. Any suggestions? Thanks again.
The temperature TThrottle uses is derived from the core temperature so it is always some 5C higher than the sensor case temperature. But some AMD sensors are off.
TThrottle is used for BOINC. So it only recognizes BOINC programs that are running. See the second tab.
See the first tab "Nr of found programs". It only throttles programs shown there.
If you want to add additional programs click expert in first tab. And add the program name without the .exe in the Program list <ADD>

If you want to use an emergency throttle for only a short while, go to tab 5 rules.
Add a rule cpu temperature > than 70 throttle. It throttles all running programs it can find, but that's a very wasteful process and takes up CPU time.

Find the right family in the TThrottle log. (tab 7)

The F family can be adjusted by placing the tthrottle.xml from examples to the tthrottle.exe folder.
Look for:
<PROCESSOR>
  <amdFactor>49</amdFactor>
</PROCESSOR>

Remove the comment and comment text <!-- -->
If you want 20C up change the value to 29.

If the GPU reports the temperature it may be correct or a driver problem but 90C is the value some cares have.
Win 7 still has some driver problems.

1- why two same buttons with Projects, tasks, messages and transfers??
3- there is a little misalignment between the button and the line where is located.
1 - You mean the toolbar and the view selection bar?
I'm thinking of making yet another bar that fits over the computer bar. With all the ones that are missing in the view selection bar.
3 - More specific, what button and what line.

1 - Tool bar and View selection bar has the same buttons: Tasks, Projects, transfer, Messages.
3 - "View Selection Bar" the butons are not correctly vertically centred.
1 - I know I plan on making another one as well.
3 - Centered ?

Hi Fred,

I think that all the options selected with the mouse right click in the projects window,
could be available in in the tool bar in all the tabs too, on that way could be easier to
ask for new work, or suspend projects or anything else without going to the project
window.

ANOTHER THING:

is there any volunteer that could design new icons for this useful program ?? ....
.......... and made it good looking too  ;).
I add that to the wish list.
My graphic skills are not that good, but you can't have everything. ;D

I'v been trying out this program since v0.20 , and I like it!

With v0.26 however, the combined window only displays 1 computer while
previous versions showed all 8 (on my LAN).

This is under WinXP, if it matters.
Thanks that you like BoincTasks. ;D

Activate the computer bar: View->Computer bar.
And select all computer Click first, Shift Click last.
I did that for V 0.26, but in V 0.27 (working) I changed it back to all selected, with a tree selection.

At the first tab it shows 83º (and it not changes) when in the graphic tab shows less than 80º...
They can be a bit different because the values in the graph are average an the values in the first tab are actual.
Look in the 3e Tab. The first value should be identical to the one in the first tab. The second is the value used in the graph.
The rule uses the first value.

hi all,

there has been quite big improvements in this version, some doubts:
1- why two same buttons with Projects, tasks, messages and transfers??
2- about the computers, there should be something like a tree with an
"all computers", because in other way if we want to see all then after
being in other windows you have to use the "ctrl" or "shift" with the mouse.
3- there is a little misalignment between the button and the line where is located.
4- in the transfer tab, I thing the sorting by the % doesn't work correctly,
  now I can't check.
5- the exchange of colour pale, dark of row still doesn't work.

the thing is going really well.
I think the bar turn turned out to be an improvement. I had some doubts but it worked out pretty well.

1 - You mean the toolbar and the view selection bar?
I'm thinking of making yet another bar that fits over the computer bar. With all the ones that are missing in the view selection bar.
2 - I'm not a fan of tries, because it makes the bar larger. It's less fancy but more practical. Click Shift is the easy way. But a way to select all of them. But I could place a computer icon on top to select all computers with one click. So just above the text and move the text somewhat lower.
3 - More specific, what button and what line.
4 - I've seen it but I have to wait for some project probably SETI to get upload problems. It's not so easy to test otherwise.
5 - Is still in the list.

V 0.26

- (ADD) Task view: A filter for uploads and downloads.
- (ADD) The menu selection for startup in all windows.
- (ADD) A Tab (dock-able window) with Projects, Tasks, Transfer, Messages. Can be placed e.g. above the window for easy switching.
- (CHANGED) Message view: A better way to select the messages. E.g. from the computer selection bar, if only one is selected use that as the selected computer.
- (CHANGED) Modify the computer selection bar, to make it behave more consistent with the main window.
- (FIXED) The check "Start BoincTasks at login", did work, but didn't stick. It was alway unchecked.
- (FIXED) Message view: Sometimes there are blank lines.
- (FIXED) The deadline day/hour are not correctly saved.

Hi all,

I think I wrote before about making a new tab with computer:
like processor, CPU, GPU, OS version, BOINC version, etc.

I think that could be useful add to this tab the TThorttle version too,
in order to know with a quick view which computer/s need to be updated
and what need to be updated e.g. BOINC manager, TThrottle.
could be included BT too with a self check every xx days.

nice weekend  ;)
There are so many programs doing just that, I first concentrate on the basics of the program.
And I have been thinking of integrating TThrottle in some way.

Should take the temperature in the first tab. That is the highest temperature of all GPU's

Try V 1.71. I added a color so you can see if the rule is actually triggered.

Released as beta V 1.71

- (ADD) A correction for the temperature of AMD 10h. Look in the xml file for details.
- (BUG) Sometimes the rules where triggered. This happened when the setting was close to the actual trigger point.
- (CHANGED) The rules dialog list now displays Black (disabled, waiting for reset value to activate), Blue (active), Yellow (triggered, time delay activated), Red (rule is now active).

Hi Fred,

Great stuff so far. My wish, though, is this:

I have 20+ computers on a work network crunching. I don't really want to leave BoincTasks running in my tool bar all day and night generating traffic. The problem is when I exit BoincTasks completely, all the computer setup stuff vanishes and I have to re enter all the computer names and passwords. What I would like is a way to automate the entry of the computer names and passwords. Maybe a  comma delimited list such as: computer_name,Ip_address,password. BoincTasks could read the comma delimited list while it starts and populate the computers from that list. I'd prefer to just have: computer_name, password but I'm sure others use IP address.

Thoughts?

steve
I will add an automatic BOINC search to the wish list for a version to come.
But the settings should stick, it is stored in an xml file.
Sometimes this goes wrong because the computer is different. ;D

Go to Extra->Settings->Expert.

Check "Overrride default (xml) Folder"
Enter the path to a valid folder that you want to hold the file. Don't use a temp storage folder, because they are emptied from time to time.
Open the computer window, enter one computer, close BoincTasks. Check is the file is there and reopen BoincTasks.
This should work.
