Messages - Keith Myers

Just migrated to JS as the Wine version no longer is functional.

Having issues with the what the layout shows and is not able to sort the way I could with the Windows version.

I can find no way to have Computers list to be sorted so that I have the host that runs BT JS at the top of the list.

Same for keeping the host that runs BT JS to have its Messages at the top of the sort.

Computers are sorted alphabetically and I all I can do with the control key is sort up, down or unsorted.  Unsorted would be the logical choice but I can find no way to rearrange the order to what I need.  Clicking, dragging is not possible it seems.

Looking for some guidance about how to achieve what I used to have on the Windows version.

There is no 0.00 app, that I can find to check.
Because my Team uses a custom app via app_info.xml and the app version is not specified.

Fred, are you reading the forums at all?  No response yet to this bug in BoincTasks.

Here are the screenshots to show the problem.

 :-[
Just updated to a an anonymous application for asteroids period_search and discovered now that BoincTasks can't see the tasks ready to start and onboard every host in the Projects tab.

The Projects view shows 0 tasks for the Asteroids project.

Before I upgraded to the anonymous app and was running the stock application 1.17, all the Asteroids period_search tasks were shown.

However in the Tasks tab, all the tasks onboard running and ready to run are shown.

The only change was to the period_search application from version 1.17 to version 0.00

So a small bug in how BT enumerates tasks in the Projects tab view.

Could you please fix the Projects view so that version numbering like 0.00 is accepted.

Thanks for the confirmation that there is nothing wrong with my BT installation or the BOINC installation of the most recent client.
Not to be I guess.
Will have to access the device locally to see what it is doing.

Questions / Unable to connect to Kindle Fire BOINC
March 13, 2022, 04:02:15 AM
I have not been able to figure out how to connect to the BOINC running on my Kindle Fire HD8 tablet.
Find Computers does not find it.
Toolbox does not find it.
Manually adding the IP address and password does not find.
Running the latest BOINC 7.18.1 APK from BOINC website.
Set allow remote connections in the Advanced menus in BOINC
Input the remote password that I use in all my hosts.
Totally unable to even find where BOINC is installed in the device so I can look at cc_config.xml or rpc_auth.cfg.
Windows is unable to find BOINC with Windows Explorer when searching the internal storage.
A Kindle File manager app cannot find anything of BOINC's installation either.
It's like it is hidden or something.
All the standard places that BOINC is supposed to be installed in Android in the DATA directory has nothing of BOINC's installation.
No mention of Kindle when searching this website. I assume I am the only one to attempt running BOINC on a Kindle Fire.
Anybody have any answers or solutions?

Questions / Re: Problems with BoincTasks-Js

OK, got it to work.  You have to manually edit a single computer at a time to enable the Ready button.  If you select multiple hosts in the same Edit session, the Entry button never appears, only Delete.

The Find/Add computers never worked correctly. Never remembers the password you entered.  You have to manually add a single computer at a time and then Edit that computer all by itself to get any values to stick and the host to be connected.

But other than that progress, nothing else is working.  Can't get the hosts over onto to the Computers list.  Can't get rid of the error ball on the 192.168.2.81 host.  Can't make any edits in any of the fields.  Can't get any of my projects to display.  No running tasks displayed.
That looks exactly as it should be.
Press on the Ready icon in the footer.

After adding computers the edit computer screen is shown, edit and press ready.
Doesn't work on the other hosts.  Editing any of the other host Password fields and hitting the Ready button does nothing.

Making some progress.  It looks once I filled in the password, once again in the Edit function of the host list that BT could connect to the midget host.  Populated all the fields correctly.

So the host that has the only conventional debian install of BOINC is the one that can be connected.  All my other hosts are invisible to BT because they are installed in a non-default location.

I have no issues with the Windows 1.85 version of BT running under Wine though connecting to all my hosts and displaying all features.  Will continue using the Windows version.

Let me know of any further developments/versions that can allow connecting to hosts running in /home.

It would never do anything after the Find computers has scanned and found the computers.  I clicked all the hosts and clicked the add button but nothing happened.

Then I went back to the menu and hit the Add button and the computers made it into the list with the same amount of Undefined hosts.

Then the host list started doing its recycling thing from top to bottom.  But this time I was able to select the individual Undefined hosts and the Delete entry worked this time and I was able to clear them from the list.

But other than that progress, nothing else is working.  Can't get the hosts over onto to the Computers list.  Can't get rid of the error ball on the 192.168.2.81 host.  Can't make any edits in any of the fields.  Can't get any of my projects to display.  No running tasks displayed.

Questions / Problems with BoincTasks-Js
March 15, 2021, 01:47:06 AM
Having no luck with the deb BoincTasks-Js application.  Nothing seems to work.  I add Computers by Find >> Add Computers and checkmarking  them.

But only the IP, Computer and Port fields ever populate.

I can't edit any of the added Computer fields to change the name.  If you manually add a computer entry, it just comes up as Undefined.  Trying to Delete the unwanted computer host entries just makes the computer list constantly flip back and forth from top to bottom.

Not sure what the GRP field is for or what it is defined as either.

Also, what is the cycling dots on bottom left of the status bar about.  I'm guessing it might be an indicator of the BT app handshaking with the hosts.  And mine just continuously cycles from 1 to 8 dots.

The Computers list window just has a big red, crossed out error dot.

This app is definitely not ready for prime time.

Linux and Mac / Re: Boinctasks on Linux

Have BT installed in Ubuntu 18.04.  Program up and running and all hosts connected.  But no projects, task, messages or history in the window for any host. Status bar says updating every two seconds as usual. 0 tasks. :'(

Thanks for the confirmation about how BoincTasks implements the task limit via NNT.  That is what we suspected.  I also would have thought that an obvious "backup" file of the original config.xml configuration file shouldn't have been able to affect anything.  I wonder where the original file went.  I certainly had no conscious effect on it as I didn't even know the directory or files existed until I was told to go look for it.  Chalk it up to mysterious consequences.  I have had this issue for over 6 months and not one of the experts in the Number Crunching forum ever found anything wrong with my settings on any of my computers.  They had given up trying to determine why my systems never downloaded anything other than in small amounts.  They just said I was under the influence of bad "juju" or whatever and I was an easy butt of a joke.  All I know is that as soon as that file was deleted all my systems got huge downloads that filled me back in up in just a couple of requests instead of the usual hours worth of dribbles.

Consider the problem resolved but not understood.  Thanks.
