The notice tab works fine, IE is one of the oldest apps running fine under wine, for linux or Mac OS X :)

I saw that before clicking on the BT icon again to open the BT window, the CPU used is even less : I had 2-3% from the wine process and the same for the wineserver (that's cool), when I opened the window it raised again and when I closed it again it went back to previous measures (10-11+2), so maybe it takes some time to "calm down" ? anyway I'm pretty happy with this operating mode now, thanks for the tip for closing the window !

Changing the parameter has no effect, but "closing / hiding" is much more efficient : wine process goes down to 10-11% and winserver down to 2%, so it's 12-13% of one core, that's much more reasonable.

Besides I found out that letting BT on the notice view when I'm not using it prevents the freeze to happen anymore. I used to let it on the app tab in the past, and with this version (combined with wine version) I had the freeze, so not anymore.

So I think I now have a way to use BT with enough piece of mind now :)

Questions / Re: BT cloud or mobile under wine ?
May 25, 2014, 09:55:43 PM
I have BT 1.58. I don't have an error inside BT setup window, where could there be one ? If it is in the field below the password, there is not text in it, empty field. But if the issue is a "." in my email, I have one, and I won't remove it :)

So maybe with a next version you say ? however I don't have any message in there...

Removing the history ? Hum, the main reason why I use BT is because of the history, for all the rest the regular Boinc Manager is quite enough (and reactive, and not eating resources...) for my small needs (I don't have a farm, just my Mac), so not being able to remember the history after reboot or any reason, well, it's no good for me... I have tried what you say and now wine is using avg 17% and wineserver 8%, so only a little less. I put it back and it's not really changing, it seems I have now have 17% + 8%.

Besides, regularly (at least once per day so far), with the new wine + new BT (again I don't know if the problem is BT of wine) BT freezes and becomes responsless, I have a wine task  eating a lot a CPU and not responding (and if restart BT first I'll have another wine task adding, this one will remain), I have to kill it and restart BT...

Second : I connect with "localhost"

Questions / BT cloud or mobile under wine ?
May 24, 2014, 06:51:09 PM
Hi

I happily use BT with wine on my Mac.

I'm very interested with the cloud (or mobile ?) thing, but enabling the option in BT (cloud) doesn't seem to work, I followed the video but it says

Logging in.
Wrong reply from the server: version.
Did you login with BoincTasks?

Is it because of wine ? is it possible via wine ?

Thanks

Hi

I also installed 1.59 recently with wine under Mac OS X Mavericks, there are several wine processes running at the same time, one of them is eating an average of 20% of one core, or above, and one wineserver process is eating 9% of one core at the time, that's min 30% of one core... it was not like that with the old version I was using (I think 1.4, it's deleted now :) )...

Problem is that I also upgraded wine, I now run 1.61 and I was also using an old version, and things have changed because it was launching XQuartz when I ran BT before, but not anymore, only wine is ran now, I don't know why. So it's not only BT but that was upgraded, so I cannot swear that "the fault" is on BT, or wine, or else...

But still it's a lot of CPU, I have tried the setup you mention above but it didn't change anything. Especially in the tasks view it is refreshing the display every 2/3 secs, that's a lot, I would be happy with 5 secs of even more, but I saw no setup to change this.

Thanks.

edit : it occurred to me a simple test, I switch to the notification tab, where nothing is supposed to change for a long delay, but still the CPU use is the same for the 2 processes I mentioned. I'm afraid "that's the way it is" with this version (or wine / BT version combination)...

Questions / Re: Cannot add new computer
June 13, 2013, 01:56:11 PM
Just for info it finally worked, ie I didn't do any more changes to the file since last time and then I gave it another try and then I could select the tab and the buttons weren't grey anymore and I could add my external computer and it worked.

Thanks for the help.

Questions / Re: Cannot add new computer
May 16, 2013, 06:16:27 PM
I have stopped / restarted BT but same behaviour.

I have this file and the content is :

<computers>
<computer>
<id>0</id>
<id_name>AMAZONA-IVVBF1G</id_name>
<id_group></id_group>
<ip>localhost</ip>
<checked>1</checked>
<port>-1</port>
<password></password>
<encryption>no</encryption>
</computer>
<computer>
<id>0</id>
<id_name>new</id_name>
<id_group></id_group>
<ip></ip>
<checked>0</checked>
<port>-1</port>
<password></password>
<encryption>no</encryption>
</computer>
</computers>

Why do I have two "0" computers ? (the second being "new" and I don't see that in the computer list)

Can I try to edit this one and replace the 0 by 1 and try to put the details of the distant machine I want to access ? (can IP be a url "domain.url.org" or something like that or it has to be a 1.2.3.4 v4 IP ?) that is replacing this "new" computer, or I should try to add a separate "1" computer ?

This is what I did, I'm in the computer tab, I've tried with cursor on top of the computer list, or on the (only) local computer name, all 3 options in the computer menu are grayed out anyway, I cannot add or do anything else.

I wonder what is the impact of not having boinc installed at all in that VM, and how BT did found a "local computer name", it's just take the system name ?

Questions / Cannot add new computer
May 15, 2013, 09:19:13 PM
Hi

I installed BT 1.46 on a Win 2012 server, when I go to Computer menu all options are greyed out, I cannot do Add new computer... any idea ?

Note : I don't have boinc installed on the server and I won't, I just want BT remote access to other boinc instances thru the web.

Thanks

Questions / Re: No luck or not good enough ?
July 12, 2012, 07:17:01 PM
1.35 is not the beta ?

For the moment I tried on my machine as you suggest, no luck with this neither, I have also tried "from outside", ie using my internet address:8080 (I already have a route to 8080 open on my router), from the local browser (ie in Mac OS X) and also from a linux VM browser, but no response - but I never get a connection error after a pretty long time neither, just waiting.

So maybe it's really because of wine ?

Questions / No luck or not good enough ?

Hi

First thanks for that great idea, I've been looking for a long time for something like that, allowing to access my main computer (iMac) boinc client from anywhere.

On my android phone I have AndroBoinc which is really working fine and allows to do the basics, from the home iPad I couldn't, so of course decided to try this as soon as I was aware of it.

I read the f*****g manual and did all the steps, but the iPad cannot connect to boinc via BoincTasks, after a long time I get a connect error.

I use BoincTasks via wine on the mac, maybe the server side options are not possible via wine ?

Also I access boinc from AndroBoinc from internet and not local network (cause I know it's working fine ;) ) so maybe there is another "local issue" ?

I won't be able to test any solution before long cause the iPad went to holiday this morning and I won't see it before a long time, but maybe it's worth discussing the issue here and it can help others.

Thanks

Linux and Mac / Re: BoincTasks v1.08 on Mac
July 04, 2011, 09:55:59 PM
Ok so I found (who said "steal" ? ) the time : I don't see the directory you are talking about (C:\users\user\application data\ is empty when I run the file tool the way you say), I understood what it the Z: (ie my mac HD)... but then I tried to run again wined BT and now it's working !!! (without changing any parameter, the mess magic of computers...)

All tabs are working fine and are refreshed regularly, great !

I can see a few interesting things in the various displays and options, compared to the standard BM, but I assume that the main advantage is to manage various machines at the same time, which I don't have so far (I only deal with an office PC with no internet / proxy access, so I copy manually all files...), so I think that for the moment, I'm quite happy i could make it work but I'll keep using my mac BM...

Thanks for your help anyway !

Thanks for the answer, I'm not home now so I can't try anything and I think I may not have time to test it tonight, but for sure I'll be able to do it tomorrow and the following days.

I'll keep you posted.

I have put the correct password (my localhost has a specific one), and now I can see the tab "messages" ok, the status of the computer says "connected", but the project and task tab : I see a counter saying "x seconds to display xx tasks" (and that is the correct number), but once reached 0 it starts again, and displays anything...

... and the history tab : crash of the whole application, it closed immediately, only X11 remained alone, sad and lonely...

I'm using boinc 6.10.58 and Mac OS X latest version.
