Questions / CPU usage
July 07, 2009, 06:34:30 PM
Over the duration of an hour to an hour and a half, TThrottle requires around 10-15 minutes of CPU time. Keep in mind that the system temperature has not gotten high enough for TThrottle to take action.

I have it set to monitor BOINC along with Folding@Home. I am on an x64 Vista laptop, and I have set the GPU throttle to Laptop. Aside from that, everything is normal. It had not always consumed this much CPU before. Is there some way I can lower the amount of CPU used by TThrottle? I have just sent in a log email, and I can copy and paste the log window on here.

Questions / Sending a log through email failing

This doesn't look right to me. Is it a problem with the app or a problem with my configuration?

Wish List / Version history

On the website under "Download", you can scroll down and see a record of the past versions and their changes. However, this history is only up to 1.47. Perhaps an update is in order?

Wish List / General throttle questions

After some system crashes the general throttle looks promising.
Made some rules:
if cpu temperature > 70 shutdown     [Does emergency shutdown of the system, as fast as possible]
if cpu temperature > 64 throttle        [Enables a full capture of running programs. They will all be throttled above this setting]
if cpu temperature > 68 email           [Send an email]
if cpu temperature < 50 email           [Send an email when the temperature goes low meaning no BOINC activity]
if gpu temperature < 60 email           [Same but for GPU]
My CPU (AMD Turion64 2.0GhZ dual-core) runs at over 80C on average, with BOINC and F@H running. I'm not sure if this is normal, but I've read about Turions being able to go up to 90-95C before shutting down. If you include a feature like this, please allow it to be tweaked/disabled.

Questions / Weird icon

For some reason, the TThrottle icon looks like this.

(In case you can't tell, it's the icon circled in red)

Is this normal?

Questions / Weird crash
June 03, 2009, 05:51:20 PM
Every time I open TThrottle, it crashes immediately. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, and there's no change. I also tried both the stable and the beta versions, and both of them exhibited the same behavior. I don't know what to do at this point.

Wish List / A few minor changes
May 30, 2009, 05:32:39 AM
Let me start off this thread with a few things:

I am a very new user of TThrottle running a 64-bit Vista laptop with an AMD dual-core Turion processor, and I am happy with this program as a whole. It has so far been reliable and helpful. However, there are a few things that I would like to suggest.

  • An easy way to add TThrottle to system startup, preferably as a service so that you don't have to login to run the program.
  • A check for whether or not a value for "Set Core" is present when Auto-Active is clicked (gave me an exception when there was no value present)
  • An auto-conversion for "Set Core" when "View degrees in Fahrenheit" is changed. This would help to keep an inattentive user from allowing their system to heat up when the maximum temperature goes from 170F to 170C
  • Whenever TThrottle tries to monitor more than 6 processes at once, it crashes. Given that I have Folding@Home running alongside BOINC alongside P2P clients, I would like to be able to throttle more than 6 processes.

Aside from a few bugs to stamp out, this program is pretty solid. Keep up the good work!
