Hi all,

just installed, what does show the TThrottle column??
The amount of throttling. 0 (gone) = not throttling.
in the computer that I've installed BT is showing 30 when TThrottle is showing around 70
the temperature is the same.
but the tthrottle is only shown in the "server" computer, not the "hosts"
TThrottle gives the running % while BoincTasks gives the throttled %.
70 TThrottle = 70% running = 30 BoincTasks = 30% throttled.
BoincTasks value = 100 - TThrottle value

The throttle is not shown when it is 0 = running full (throttle).

V 0.30

A lot of mayor internal changes, I hope this goes without any mayor problems.

- (ADD) Task view: Column Throttle and Temperature for TThrottle integration. http://efmer.eu/boinc/
- (ADD) Settings General: Connect to TThrottle check. Connects using the BOINC port+1 = 31417
- (ADD) Task view: Filter on Computation errors.
- (ADD) Task view: A dialog to rearrange the column order or hide one or more.
- (CHANGED) History view: The tasks that cross the remove deadline are removed all at once.
- (CHANGED) Close down sequence.
- (FIXED) Task view: Filter on suspended sometimes did still filter, even when the filter was disabled.

  • I know that update projects with tasks ready to report functionality was requested in the past and is already in the ToDo list. I just wanted to add that the Update project(s) right-click context menu entry could be equivelently available not just in the Tasks window, but also in the History window.
  • History size could get few additional options to keep results for more than 30 days, possibly also a Forever option?
  • There is an "Extra / Update all projects" menu entry. I think that such operation is not that common in projects' micromanagment ;D Because I can relatively simply switch to the Projects window, select all available projects with left-mouseclick to top + Shift-left-mouseclick to bottom + right-mouseclick Update.
Possibly a menu entry to "Report all finished" tasks a.k.a. "Update all projects with tasks in Ready to report state" would be much more useful?
  • It is currently not possible to move the (project or task) line selection up/down with cursor keys, to resize the lines' selection with Shift+cursor keys (this all is already functional in the Messages window), or to select all lines with Ctrl+A or some equivalent (like Home + Shift+End keys, which works in Messages).
Nevertheless, moving the "current" line is somehow supported in these window, because if the window height is smaller then the number of projects or tasks, the list is being scrolled by Up/Down cursor keys or PgUp/PgDown as if some invisible imaginary line would be moving them.
  • In the Projects window, it is not possible to select an arbitrary
list of projects by e.g. left-mouseclick to third + Shift-left-mouseclick to seventh - you can just select first-to-last. Ctrl+click is working correctly

Sorry for reporting also bugs in the wish list, I felt this belonged together.
I'm not yet quite sure what to do with the history entries, some users have 1 a day others 1000+ added to the history. But I think of something.
I will probably move all the delete entries to another list.

I added most of it to the wish list. The message view is totally linear, but all the others are sorted list, so they can change at any moment. The selection is locked on a specific name and will follow it. But I will see what can be done.

I was wondering if there is any way to move the column heading for "Computer" to the position currently occupied by "Project"?
Thank you in advance,
Jim
Wait for version 0.30. You can move all the columns around anyway you like, and if you want, hide some of them.
But only in the Tasks view, for now, the most used one.

Questions / Re: Memory consumption
November 25, 2009, 05:10:29 PM
Quote from: Pepo on November 25, 2009, 04:40:12 PM
My BT 0.29 seems to consume some 205 MB memory (Private, Pagefile). The Peak Working set is also around 220 MB, but settled down to 8 MB, thus it possibly happened just at the startup (a couple of minutes ago).

Is such (IMO) excessive memory requirement necessary for BT?

The application has 3 computers defined, but just 1 is reachable, 2 are and will out of reach.
Among the allocated memory, the process has 3 x 53.43 MB and 3 x 10.7 MB (possibly pre-allocated) blocks of memory (in the system commit), which seem to correspond to the 3 defined computers. Are they necessary to be statically pre-allocated in their whole size and in advance?
It's on my list, but with computers having 4G + memory.
But I will take a look at it someday, to make the memory more dynamically. But this is the safest and fastest way.

But I finally got the bug. [...] V 1.73 should solve the problem...
Solved. Perfect!

Quote...and I added a lot of new stuff for BoincTasks.
Like "TThrottle 1.73: New: Integration with BoincTasks.. of local and remote hosts."? How far?

On the Options tab (or how is it actually called in English) I've tried to check "Enable BoincTasks" - what should I look for? After unchecking it, the checkboks remains disabled for some 20 seconds, it gets enabled afterwards.

After trying to start BT 0.29 for 5-6 times it merely said "Can't open some file" and terminated. Now it is finally running. Just one note (belongs to other section actually): the Graphs dlg is showing just black rounded backgrounds.
The TThrottle part is working and can communicate using this test tool http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual_net.html (Use the client to communicate with TThrottle)
The port is one above the default BOINC port.
The enable tab starts a server thread, that starts listening to someone who wants to connect.
Removing the check and the thread is ordered to quit, but that can take up to 15 seconds to complete. At that time, the check is disabled until the thread reports it has stopped. Otherwise some nasty things can happen, starting a new one while another one is quitting.
When requested it's sending an info string with all the data back.
I'm now implementing it in BoincTasks now and I hope to get a release this week.

Did someone say easy. ;D But I finally got the bug. Indeed a sort of handle, that caused a leak in the global memory.
It's the only sort of leak, the debugger doesn't complain about.
V 1.73 should solve the problem... and I added a lot of new stuff for BoincTasks.

Something is leaking, maybe a handle of some kind.
I go hunting for them tomorrow. Shouldn't be too hard to find.... I hope.

Wish List / Re: Record of finished WU

What do you think about this one.

What I want to do is add an option.
1) after xx days remove.
2) after xx days filter.

2) The filter combines all the tasks from a particular application/version into one line.  This is done per day.
So you get one one line / per day / per application/version

Beta Testing / Network testing tool for BOINC
November 20, 2009, 06:27:44 PM
I have a new testing tool.
http://www.efmer.eu/download/boinc/boinc_tasks/client_server_10.zip download.
http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual_net.html information.

This tool is intended for testing, but is also the basis for the integration of TThrottle and BoincTasks.
Furthermore it is the basis for some additions to BoincTask for an automatic BOINC detector. Making installation a lot easier.

Hi Fred,

some way of saving the completed WU per daily basis (e.g.) all computers together and not being deleted after xx days, kept in history in the desired folder, to do with then later .....

and instead of delete after xx days, just exchange for show xx days.
Why would you keep a record for more than 30 days?
Some computers complete > 1000 WU a day so the history log becomes quite large.

Hi all,

1 - still not saved the layout of screen in Tasks windows, when setup only two sorting columns after restart the program appears again the third column.
2 - Settings - Warning tab - not properly defined the GPU alert and not properly working:
Efficiency GPU XX % warning when below (0 = disable)
as is now is just showing the opposite, when is working is showing error and when there is error is working like it was working properly.
e.g. I setup the alarm at 25%, WU is working properly at 98 - 99 % of GPU (showing error as is color setup)
WU not working or showing 1.xx % it's error, but showing that is working properly as per setup is "above" 25% of GPU efficiency

in other way, really going very well.
1) I can't reproduce it in any way. Tell me step for step what you do, so I can follow what you are doing.
2) I think we misunderstand each other.
The CPU % displays the percentage the CPU uses to work on a task.
A CPU task takes up a lot of CPU %, a GPU takes up a lot less CPU time. As we can't see what the GPU is doing the time shown is the CPU time the feeder needs to keep the GPU happy.
What we can see, is when the Task goes to fallback mode, meaning it doesn't use the GPU anymore because it isn't working properly.
So at that point the task runs on the CPU and instead of maybe 10% it runs 90% CPU.

The example that matches the given message area has rolled off the history panel.  But there are many examples, here is one.

History Panel:

Updating ...   0.00 Updating Please wait    anansi 1258243430_54581 00:00:04  11/16/2009 1:38:14 AM  Report OK   elements

This entry stays in the updating mode for ever.  "Updating" should be replaced with anansi (application name) and "0.00 updating Please wait" should be replace with 1.06 anansi (execute module name).

Message Panel
Here are the messages that go with this WU.

I hope this makes it a little clearer.

Can you follow one all the way.
First the history tab should give the WU with the status Uploading
Is there a project and application name at this point.
Second the status should become Ready to report just after the upload.
Is there a project and application name at this point.
