I am running BoincTasks with Wine on Ubuntu Precise. I don't currently have a Windows machine to compare as Windows 7 borked. The machine is dual core.

BoincTasks runs at around 60% CPU which is excessive. Is this due to Wine (wineserver runs at around 10%) or is this due to the application itself?

TIA

It shouldn't, but it may depend on the number of computers connected.
Go to BoincTasks settings Cloud and Mobile. Make sure everything is unchecked.

I don't know if this works with Wine:

Expert tab "Enable thread runtime graph"
Restart BoincTasks go to Expert again -> Thread graph. Maybe that gives a clue.

As you can see I only have six machines attached, but it doesn't matter if it's only one: the result is the same.

I read that minimising it should reduce CPU load, but it still runs at 50%.

Use [X] close to put BoincTasks -> TaskBar.
Another thing that you can switch off is the history.
History tab: Remove check at "Enable history"

If you want to keep the history set the minimum history time to e.g. 30 seconds. Or use the latest Boinc version that does this automatically.

And ... there are users with > 500 computers, so 6 shouldn't be a problem.
