Congrats on the new beta.

I'm particularly surprised that you have added 'Resizable dialogs so promptly and can report that it is working perfectly.
The new driver installs seemlessly and will be no longer be confusing for new users than the old method was at installation procedure.

I am installing it on my machines now and will check how this new version performs in the morning.

UPDATE:
I was away most of yesterday and came home to note that machines running Vista have encountered a problem with v7. They were updated from v6.50 and installed as Administrator.

I have since uninstalled TThrottle and tried a clean install with the same result. Uninstalling and going back to 6.50 works flawlessly.

Fred, please let me know if there are any particular logs you require for further diagnosis

I hving then same problem with 7.00.   It installs, but not the driver.  Had to go back to 6.31.  Must uninstall 7.00 via add/remove programs.  Following are the logs from both 7.00 and 6.31 respectively. By the way 7.00 works on windows 8.

Try again, this version 7.001 has a modified installer, it waits a bit longer before installing the new one.

Yes. I'll have more time later and will try again on another machine and let you know if there's any difference.
I'm clutching at straws, but your instructions mention the x86 installer. I wonder if you have tried the 64-bit version or even if that would make any difference to the outcome?

Most of the testing is done with Win 7 64 and a final check with Win 7 32.

Check the Windows update if there is an update pending.
Something like User-Mode Driver Framework-versie 1.9 Or Windows Driver Framework.

FYI, I've tried another Vista machine and get the same problem.

OK, Windows Update has nothing for me apart from Skype which I don't want to update.

I have flicked through the update history and can't seem to find UMDF. However, this link (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=38421) is showing the latest version as 1.11 and refers to KB Articles:KB2685813.
User-Mode Driver Framework version 1.11 update for Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 R2 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2685813) is confusing me though. The title suggests it is available for Vista and gives info on how to check it has been installed. The download link, however, goes to a page (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38421) for Win 7 and Win Server 2008 R2.

Is UMDF required for earlier versions of TThrottle? If not, this might explain why v6 works and v7 doesn't.  :-\

I think I know what's causing it.
A function uses something Win 7 only. That is probable what's causing the problem.
So a XP / Vista driver is what's needed.  :o

I think you are right, Fred. I think it most likely that (the lack of) UDMF is the elephant in the room.

The offer of a remote Vista machine still stands if you wish to do any pre-beta testing.

Good job on the second update.

I have been busy over weekend and have only just tried the new version. For some strange reason, I still can't get it to work on a Vista machine. I'll try again when I have more free time.

I have noticed a few minor points whilst testing the install:

typo. Installer says
QuoteThis will install TThrottle (32/64 Bit): Temperature Throttle by eFMer V 7.0.0.1 on your computer
should be V 7.0.0.2

also shows as 7.0.0.1 | in Control Panel | Programs |

In Remove Driver dialog, msg reads
QuoteDriver removed! (If you see any errors the driver way already removed or not running)
'way' should be 'was'

'Install Driver' dialog still reports that driver cannot be installed because INF file is missing

The 7.0.0.2 version I had downloaded previously appears to be different to the ones I now have, but comparing it with 7.0.0.1, it would appear that you have indeed uploaded a new version with the same name!
REQUEST: It might be a useful addition to include a file hash on the download page  ;)

Now for the bad news, I have tried installing 7.0.0.2 over 7.0.0.1 (and over 6.5.0) and also have done a complete uninstall before reinstalling 7.0.02. No matter whatever method I have used, I still can't get 7.0.0.2 to perform. The log always says that driver is not properly installed. (1)

I have also tried your earlier suggestion of using InstallDriver64.exe to uninstall and reinstall driver but the reinstall process always reports that a required INF file is missing.

Mixed good and bad news:Over the past few days, I have been building two new systems (one Vistax64 sp2 and one Win7x64 sp1).  Both systems are fully up to date with all Microsoft recommended updates and are running Norton Internet Security 2013 (fully updated). I have also deployed an XP machine (with all updates made). The Win7 and XP machines both work with 7.0.0.2, however this new Vista machine does not.

It's strange that idahofisherman reports that 7.0.0.2 works on Vista whilst neither of my Vista systems can get it to report core temps whilst they are happy running v6.5.

Vista machine running TThrottle 7.0.0.2:
XP 32 bit working. XP 64?
Vista 32 bit working. 64 bit inconclusive.
Win 7 32/64 working.

I will setup a test machine with Vista 64 bit, to see if this a reproducible problem.

REQUEST: It might be a useful addition to include a file hash on the download page  ;)
As I made a too quick test build.... The exe itself is protected by a certificate, so if the version in the setup read correct, you have the right file.

I see your reply to my unedited version. I was in the midst of correcting typos, so I hope it is clearer now.

I look forward to your findings. To save time, the offer of remotely running one of my Vista boxes still stands.

You can help by looking here: C:\Windows\inf

Search for cputemperature in:

setupapi.app.log
and
setupapi.dev.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log the xxxxx are a number.

setupapi.app.log: Cannot find "cputemperature"
there is no setupapi.dev.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log file, but there are 3 setupapi.ev files

setupapi.ev1, setupapi.ev2 and setupapi.ev3 apart from having incomplete names all appear to be corrupted when compared to the same file on a working Win7 system.

Would you like to see them anyway?

I have uploaded the three files to my skydrive (https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=4EA3E7D505ECE613&id=4EA3E7D505ECE613%21185) but the fact that there are 3 'corrupted' files seems sinister to me.

To clarify:
My previous post related to a Vista system with v7.0.0.2 installed but not working.
On the other Vista system with attempted install and then subsequently 6.5 installed, the 3 .ev(x) files exist but there are also the two files you asked about (but from the subsequent install of 6.5)

Go here: C:\Program Files\eFMer\TThrottle
And delete *.inf and *.sys.

And here: C:\Windows\System32\drivers
Delete: cputemperature.sys

Install everything again.

OK. TThrottle stopped and the inf and sys files removed as per your instructions. TThrottle 7.0.0.2 reinstalled as Administrator. Temps still not being captured with the following log:

Have you been able to replicate this?

Yep. My guess it's a bug in Vista 64.
But the problem is resolved by using the older 2.4 driver.
2.5 only has one item for W7 and up, for better core detection.

This is probably the best test version on this side. :o

This probably means that 2.4 is the last < W7 driver.

QuoteYep. My guess it's a bug in Vista 64.
I have been doing the latest tests on this one Vista64 machine, so I will do some tests on another Vista x86 rig.
If that gives the same result, then we'll have to wonder how Idahofisherman was able to report that v7 on Vista worked for him
QuoteBut the problem is resolved by using the older 2.4 driver.

One thing I have discovered by chance is that it is not as easy as it was with earlier versions to downgrade from v7 to v6.
This machine is presently running v6.50 but is being shown as being v7 with the 'wrong/no drivers' report.
When uninstalling v7 and then installing v6.50, the install reports that the lang files are missing (but <v 7 didn't need them). If I copy the lang folder from a v7 machine to the Vista machine, TThrottle reports that the wrong version of drivers are installed and suggests to use InstalDriver to fix the problem. The problem is that if I try this, I get the report that the INF files are missing ???

Uninstalling v7 requires more than simply using Control Panel but would normally not be noticed if upgrading from v7.00 to a later version.

That's a pity if this turns out to be true. I just can't work out how XP and Win7 works and yet Vista doesn't.

Off to test the Vistax86 machine...

I got it working on: Vista 32, Win 7 32/64 I will test the uninstaller.

A hint you probably MUST remove the driver *.sys from C:\Program Files\eFMer\TThrottle.

A quick and dirty way to install an older version: Remove everything from C:\Program Files\eFMer\TThrottle except the xml file.
Next install the older version.

I forgot to add you to the tester in the about box, will be there the next time around. 8)

Yes that is what I have to do too. We are definitely thinking along the same lines. I can confirm that v7 runs on XP and was also thinking about unistalling it and going back to 6.5 just to see if is done cleanly without the need to lift the hood and get my hands dirty ;)

That worked just fine on my own machine. 8)

Confirmed, although I have to qualify it by saying that downgrading v7 requires the use of Control Panel which does the job cleanly.

I have been thinking more about the Vista x64 problem. Would it be possible to install and run it as a 32-bit program? If so, this could be the solution for Vista x64 users being left behind ;)

No because the problem is the driver and that needs to be 64 bit.
And no one is left behind, The Vista version is otherwise identical. It only has to do with some Win 7 features.

OK. The reason I said 'left behind' is because of your previous reply,
QuoteThis is probably the best test version on this side.

so I naturally assume that Win7 x64 will be stuck with TThrottle 6.50  :-\
