Title: Dynamic IP addresses
Post by: fred on September 21, 2013, 10:50:24 AM
As of Version 1.54 BoincTasks allows dynamic IP addresses.

The local net is scanned for all available computers, with the right MAC address. If a match is found a connection will be made.
The logging shows the IP address that is in use.

To set this up go to the computers tab and fill in:

V 1.57 and up.

If there is a valid MAC address the MAC address will be used.
The IP address, if any is supplied, will be disregarded.

MAC address syntax: xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx or xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx

Two MAC addresses / computer may be supplied e.g. wired/WiFi, separated by a ; or a , : xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx;xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx

Find the MAC address using "Find Computers". Or use Windows, find MAC address (http://www.wikihow.com/Find-the-MAC-Address-of-Your-Computer)
Pressing "Add computers" will fill in the MAC address for existing computers.
Use the right mouse key to copy the MAC address.

Older version:

IP Address: use_mac
MAC Address: the computer mac address.

Does BOINC Manager accept MAC address in the "remote_hosts.cfg" for controlling remote machines??

because if this is not possible how to recognize BOINC that one machine is accessing the control of another machine??

if is done trough a like DynDNS address could be or through the router IP.

but if the controlling machine is exchanging the internal IP not sure if BOINC would accept such connections, otherwise is that in the "remote_hosts.cfg" would be accepted host names instead IPs.

The cfg allows for an address range or domain name.
