Hi Fred,

I noticed you changed the about box in the 1.12 version.
Now everything is showed perfectly. No flickering anymore, and the box is refreshed correctly...

Just to keep you informed... ;)

Beta Testing / BT1.11: Help -> About (under wine)
July 11, 2011, 08:46:40 AM
Hello Fred,

In the help->about screen, when it writes and reach the right side of the box, the screen is flickering.
You should force a carriage return in the list of testers... Its' at that point that the screen do that.
Also, when you read it a seconde time, all the screen is not totally cleared

David.

PS: I noticed you added me :D thx ;)

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.10: Unhandled exception

I did change the code in some places to work around Wine problems.

There is some ways to find if wine is used without asking the user... Some specific wine function calls can be found or simply by checking the environment variables for example...

Otherwise it could be a good challenge for you to write BT also for Linux... No wine problems anymore then ;-)

In one instance Wine was Windows compatible, but Windows itself wasn't according to the doc.

Thats why I don't like to write code under windows... It's always a pain to find reliable docs and even with them, windows itself don't follow them... what a mess :-) Linux world is a lot more "logic" and powerful in many ways and all documented. And in case of doubt, sources are easy to find :-) However, I would not recommend Linux for everyone... It stays a OS for advanced users anyway. Even if Ubuntu like Os becomes more attractive and easy to use.

The problem now lies in the Notices, the refresh isn't implemented or not working. I tried several ways to work around this problem but couldn't find any. It's a wonder that it works at all, because it's active X that is only supported by IE.

Wine implements also active X I think... They developed a clone of IE for that purpose I think...

The crash at exit should be solved. It seems to be a sequencing problem, some parts close unpredictable. I now force my own sequence.

If you want that I test it... No problem, just give me a link with your beta version fixed.

Got them all, should be enough to find the cause of the exit error.
And maybe the message switch, but I think there was only one of them.
Nice to read it. There is two... The second is in the second mail I sent you.

keep me informed.

This link: http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php?topic=338.0 The dropbox works really well, as most email systems can't handle the huge files.

Ok, thanks for the hint. I found the files I sent it to you by mail. The zip file is only 60kb so, you should receive it... Otherwise I will do it via the dropbox or put it somewhere on my own server for you to download.

Hi Fred,

As the subject told, the 1.10 is crashing sometimes under wine, when switching between the different views...
I wanted to send you the dump file by mail (as it was shown in the error box), but I can't find it... :-(

Beta Testing / BT 1.10: Unhandled exception
June 30, 2011, 07:28:00 PM
Hi Fred,

I just installed the 1.10. And with that one, I've an "unhandled exception" when I exit from BT (right click on the icon from the taskbar and clicked on the exit option)...
It's not a real problem as BT is working nice but... Never good anyway :-)

Also, I noticed you asked if we are using windows or wine under linux at the first start... Strange to ask that as wine should be "transparent" to the application...
There is not a way to simply avoid using certain function call if they don't exist or just write code in a different way who is natively compatible in both windows and wine ?
I read a topic about this quite interesting: http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?p=25906&sid=480c18ed9cad85e0f69bc386c736a2af

Read the notices_template.html file as text, with an editor, it explains things.

I read it, but don't see the interest of making my own one... a resume of the news is enough, if we want to see more, we can read it on the project site.

I suspect you didn't create your own.

What do you mean by creating my own one ?

In C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\html the file  notices_template.html should be 1752 bytes long, with time stamp 14 June.
You may have the wrong one.

[indians@hades html]$ ls -l notices_template.html
-rw-rw-r-- 1 indians indians 1752 Jun 14 19:40 notices_template.html
[indians@hades html]$ md5sum notices_template.html
ff26f3c978ba731adc9457d6478f0f2e  notices_template.html
[indians@hades html]$

It seems it's the good one...

The Firefox freezing looks like a Firefox problem.
Tried both Firefox and Chrome.

Possible indeed... It seems it's the flash plugin who is that makes the load high...

The new buttons in the notices part (the blue + - and the red cross), do nothing.
Also every time firefox is started by BT (from menus or by clicking on a link), it is frozen and take a very high load (need to kill it).

Questions / Re: Boinctasks under linux (wine)

I'm still working and testing 1.08. Fixed a couple of visual problems with Wine. Strange that English isn't working, seem there is something wrong with the file.
When 1.08 is ready, you can report the bugs you find.

I just installed it... For now, it works like a charm ! I switched back to English and no error message anymore  ;D
Sure I will report them, if I can help...  :) Feel free to ask if you need special testings and thanks again for your work and help.

Questions / Re: Boinctasks under linux (wine)
June 15, 2011, 10:19:31 PM
Hi Fred,

I finally found a workaround !  ;D

I search different values in the language key and found 1026 (bulgarian) who let me started BT.
I then changed the setup from the boinctasks preferences to English... But then, same problem when restarting BT...
I tested the system language (also english by default), same problem...
I then chose the french one and that worked.

So, in the meantime, I will use BT in french... A lot better than nothing ;-)

By the way, I needed to reinstall the 1.0.0 because the 1.0.7, like you told earlier, is crashing.
Concerning the 1.0.8, I would be happy to test it, but I don't find where to download it :-/

Thanks for all your efforts, help and patience. If I can help in some ways with linux testing or whatever, I would be happy to do it.

A workaround:

Use regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\eFMer\BoincTasks\settings
Make a new key (DWORD) language with value 1033
Start BT again.

Nice try... But again, same problem... Same error message.
I tried also with 4147 (1033 hex) and I've also the error message but a little bit different:

Fatal error, missing file: BoincTasks_ENU.btlang
Try installing BoincTasks again.
FindLangFile, locale = 0
Couldn't open language ID 4147, trying 1033 instead
FindLangFile, locale = 0
Unable to open:

I despair  :'(

Can you show me the environment setup on your ubuntu box ? Maybe something to check there...

BT is running on Ubuntu with Wine compatibility layer.
It seems that the locale isn't implemented, resulting in an invalid language selected. Fixed in 1.07.
But there was another crash in 1.07 that is fixed in 1.08, but it may run on your machine.

There are some small visual problems, that should be easy to fix.

Ubuntu implements a lot of new features (recent versions) not included in most of the other linux distributions like redhat or centos  ::)
Is the locale fix already implemented in the 1.07 ready to download on your site ? Because I just tried to install it and I've the same problem :'(

I don't know if the problem is still in BT or in the version of wine I'm using or even if it's a simple config problem... That's what I would be very happy to  know. I could then maybe find a workaround to make it work.
