Beta Testing / BT 0.98
January 20, 2011, 10:04:37 PM
Minor glitch in
QuoteAdded: Report all completed tasks to the toolbar context menu. The number indicates the total number to be reported:

If BT is started with tasks already "Ready to report" the new context menu item shows an accurate count :)
Newly completed tasks increment the counter correctly :)
If the "Report all completed tasks" function is then executed the tasks are reported, but the counter does not reset  :(
The next time a task is completed the counter resets to nil (should now be 1) :(
Thereafter the counter increments, but continues one number behind :'(

Wish List / Gadget modes
January 12, 2011, 02:09:00 AM
Two related feature requests:

  • Request add a 3rd mode option to the Gadget settings -- Mode: Show all 'Ready to report' tasks,
  • Request add the Projects>Report all completed tasks command to the systray context menu.

I hope you're enjoying your hiking holiday ;D

Wish List / Notices options
December 25, 2010, 06:50:16 PM
I call this a low priority feature request rather than a bug:

On Settings>Notices if Hide notice after & Show alert every are deselected, the data entry textboxes disappear.  When the options are selected again, the numbers have returned to default values (60 days & 30 minutes).  Request instead that the textboxes remain visible/grayed out, and retain the values entered.  (Two more keys for the Registry? :) )

Wish List / Filter parameters
December 24, 2010, 08:51:07 AM
It would be helpful to have separate filter options for Ready to start-CPU and Ready to start-GPU, based on plan class.  I often want to expand the population of one type without looking at the others.

Prioritize however you see fit ;)

Questions / New tabs in Settings dialog?
December 23, 2010, 10:19:28 PM
Not reported as a bug and yes I know the version is DOA, but:

In v0.95 Settings dialog I notice 2 new tabs "Messages" & "Transfers" that are both blank.  I didn't see them mentioned in the version description.  Are they broken, or reserved for future implementation?

I didn't mention this earlier because the History issue took precedence.

Beta Testing / BT 0.95

After update to 0.95, all previous History entries were erased.  Newly completed tasks are displayed correctly.  Was this behavior expected ???

Wish List / Synchronize with account manager
December 01, 2010, 01:58:42 AM
Is it possible to get wishlist item
Quote- Add the account manager, remove etc.
moved up the priority list?  I've been moving my project resource shares around quite a lot lately, and it would be nice to have a one-click "Synchronize with "BAM!" :)  That's about the only thing I still have to start up BoincMgr for ;)

Beta Testing / BT 0.91

Notices appear to be broken in this version.  Selecting a computer known to have notices, the Notices tab displays
QuoteThis program cannot display the webpage

  Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

  What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

    Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

    More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

Since I'm posting this, obviously I have Internet connectivity.  The notices are displaying correctly in BM (6.12.6α).  It looks like the notices.html file is not being created.  Maybe something to do with the fix
QuoteChanged: Notices: Don't show more, on notices without an link ???

Note: I usually use GoogleChrome as my default browser.  On a hunch I changed default to Internet Explorer, but no change in behavior.

Beta Testing / BT 0.83
October 24, 2010, 06:18:40 PM
Minor bug:

While checking the implementation of
QuoteFixed: Task Properties doesn't show elapsed and CPU time, when a task is completed,
which appears to be working fine, I noticed that "Fraction done" in Task Properties for a completed task reads 0.000%.  It may have been that way since the task property sheet was implemented, and I just never noticed before.  Fraction done for tasks in progress appears to be tracking OK.

Not exactly the end of the world, but... :)

Beta Testing / BT 0.77
October 07, 2010, 09:41:34 PM
Minor glitch: the Update dialog is currently showing
QuoteCurrent version: 0.77  ( Latest version : 0.74 , (Latest beta version : 0.76) )

So when you get around to compiling 0.78. . . ;D

Questions / Tasks count for FreeHAL
September 28, 2010, 07:25:36 PM
I recently attached FreeHAL (groan), & yes I know that project does things a bit strangely.  And I've reviewed past forum postings with keyword "FreeHAL".  But do we know why, with a task in progress on each host, on the Projects tab the Tasks count remains at "0/0" and the Time Left at "-/-"?  Something to do with the use/resource value being <1CPU?

Wish List / Checkpoints for multithread projects
September 14, 2010, 12:39:30 PM
Re: wishlist item
QuoteBUG: Checkpoints for multi thread projects are messed up. But ... there is no multi thread project that has work........

AQUA's IQUANA [IQUANA (mt1) v1.14] has work and to spare.  I just completed 2 WUs and downloaded 2 more.  And the checkpoint column is as funky as ever ;D

Reminder -- IQUANA still has a problem of randomly locking up a CPU core when in state Waiting, especially on a quad.  So it's a good idea to Suspend Project when it isn't actually running ;)

Questions / Testing BoincRescheduler v2.0
August 31, 2010, 10:46:23 PM
Better late than never: I finally got around to checking out the Other projects tab.

I must be doing something wrong.  I tried following the instructions in How to reschedule other BOINC projects, but I can't get the test to pass.  I don't have Astropulse (and they don't have any work to download), so I had to extrapolate to (several) other projects.  The project URL is no problem, that part of the test passes.  But I can't seem to get the Application name right.  Using the data fields under <app_version> your example "astropulse_v505" looks like it's <app_name> + "_v" + <version_num>.  But that combination always fails the test, resulting in e.g.,
Quote31 August 2010 - 12:37:13 No application found matching: collatz_v205.
I also tried leaving out the v, substituting space for underscore, etc.  All same application not found.  Note that Collatz isn't the only other project I tried.

So, what am I doing wrong?  What is the exact template for the "Application" field?  Or is v2.0 still only working in the Seti section of client_state?

B/w & I hope you're enjoying your vacation ;D

EDIT-- Note that I made it over 8M credits! 2M in 1 month with the new Fermi card ;D

When you added the (much appreciated) project filter to the Messages display, you obviously set it up to key on the Project value; however anything with a null Project value is also passed by the filter.  So client messages like benchmarks, changes to Preferences, etc. are also displayed.  When I filter for, e.g., Rosetta, that really is all I want/need to see.

Could you maybe set a filter option for "Client Messages," and send anything with a null Project value there instead?  (And exclude them from the other filter options of course.)

Wish List / Two new feature requests
August 25, 2010, 04:38:24 AM
A couple of GUI items, hopefully not too strenuous:

1) Please consider moving the Rules tab from Settings to a separate menu item (i.e., Extra>Rules) with an expandable window to allow for long application names & rule titles.  Also request that the new Rules window ( ;) ) remember changes to its own size/position, plus changes to the column width settings, when exiting BT (which BTW the current Settings>Rules tab doesn't).

2) The Project & Task Properties sheets are currently fixed-dimension windows.  Please also consider making them re-sizable windows with memory of the last size & screen position.

More stuff for the Registry?  ;D

Wish List / Another "doesn't need a checkpoint time"
August 21, 2010, 11:10:53 AM
Re: (from V0.70)
Quote-Changed: Tasks: Don't show the checkpoint when a task is: Ready to report, uploading or in error.
I should have remembered this one - could you add "Aborted" to this group (no rush, maybe after the trip to France) ;D

Much better ;D 8)

Now on to testing.

Beta Testing / BT 0.70
August 18, 2010, 01:27:58 PM
1) Looks like sorting on History has gone haywire.  Whatever primary sort column is selected, it is always sorting by Project name instead.  Secondary & tertiary sortpoints have no effect either.  That alone makes 0.70 dead on arrival for me, so I'll be rolling back to 0.69 :(  As always, prioritize this how you see fit, but for me it's a fatal flaw.

2) I did notice that "Ready to start"  tasks that are not combined by the filter are now displaying a (0) 00:00:00 Checkpoint - probably as a result of
Quote-Fixed: Tasks: Checkpoint: Show the time when a filtered item is only one.
Those should probably be suppressed like
Quote-Changed: Tasks: Don't show the checkpoint when a task is: Ready to report, uploading or in error.

3) The new checkpoint warnings via config.xml appear to be working OK so far EXCEPT - as I predicted, the XML parser won't accept "WORLD COMMUNITY GRID" with the embedded spaces :P  It also wouldn't take "WORLD_COMMUNITY_GRID".  No error or anything, it just ignored that project section altogether.  I didn't play around with other combinations, just truncated the project value to "WORLD" and it's fine.

That's all I had time to look at before rolling back.
#19
I installed v2.00β over v1.82 (which was running fine) on a Core Duo x64, WinVista SP2 host.  During the update, 2 unusual conditions:

  • BOINC had AQUA IQUANA in progress, a multicore task running across both CPU cores
  • BOINC was auto-suspended (time of day) for 10 minutes to allow disk defragging by Diskeeper
After the install completed, the "one time test" ran to identify processors.  After that Tthrottle only sees one CPU core (core 0).

I tried uninstall/reinstall v2.00, no change in symptom.  I tried rolling back to v1.92 (it sees both cores) and (re)installing v2.00 over it.  The one time test did not run again, and v2.00 again does not see core 1.  V2.00 installed on 2 other hosts (a 64 bit quad and a 32 bit dual) and all cores are recognized on those machines.  So the one time test appears to be the problem.

I need a workaround to force rerun of that test with both cores working on separate tasks.  Some way to do a completely "clean" install, edit the Registry, whatever.  And the one time test may need some work.

Questions / Custom checkpoint warning
August 14, 2010, 08:27:03 PM
A few (anticipated) questions in advance of the release of v0.70 :)

1) If project/application X isn't defined in config.xml, will its Checkpoint cell keep the color of the rest of the row (good) or revert to RGB 255,255,255 (bad) or even 0,0,0 (worse)?

   a) If config.xml is absent, is this = checkpoint warnings disabled?

2) Will the XML parser accept embedded special characters (i.e., spaces) in project/application name strings, or_should_underscores be used?

3) Some Installers/Uninstallers have a bad habit of wiping out everything in the installation directory whether or not it's involved in the installation or removal script.  Will the future update or uninstall-for-later-reinstall leave an existing config.xml alone?  (This may sound paranoid, but I've been burned before ::))
