Beta Testing / BT 0.95

After update to 0.95, all previous History entries were erased.  Newly completed tasks are displayed correctly.  Was this behavior expected ???

Wish List / Re: Deadline to be kept in history?
December 22, 2010, 05:11:32 PM
I really only see one situation where I would need to keep the deadline of completed tasks: if they were submitted late because the project server was down, to see if credit is granted anyway.  This is (hopefully) pretty rare.

[EDIT]
In this connection if the feature gets implemented, it would be helpful to have visual indication (e.g., cell color) if the Reported time is after the deadline.

I don't think it crashed as there's no dump file generated for today. It always happen even on previous versions (cant remember whc way back).
One thing for sure that I will get this issue is when one of my host (remote - from far far away land :) ) goes offline then BT will have a thread timeout - results to toolbars in the wrong place.
I made a note to test it.

I was unable to reproduce glenaxl's symptom by either killing BT externally from Process Explorer, or internally using the silver bullet.  The selection bar stayed where it was placed, next to the operation bar.

So that "thread timeout" situation may be unique.  I don't have any remotes further than the next room, all on the same subnet, so can't really reproduce glenaxl's conditions.

The tooltip for cropped overlong Messages' lines is tooooo short.

Doesn't Windows impose a maximum character length on tooltips ???

Notices...again.

In this version with the Notices tab active, clicking a computer in the computer list causes a new tab to open in the default browser and its notices to display there instead of on the BT Notices tab.  Clicking each computer calls a new browser tab.  Behavior is the same regardless of which browser (Firefox/IE/Chrome) is assigned as default.  OS is Win7.

This feature worked correctly in v 0.91.1 after the template was updated.

would be nice to have an option to save and load different kind of connections, as home - abroad, etc.
Like a selectable sets of computers?
Yeah...Boinc.NET has that: "Groups".  Sounds like a good idea for Corsair's unusual situation--others too I'm sure.

Questions / Re: BoincTask restarting and crashing
December 01, 2010, 04:55:48 AM
Quote from: Mark Brown on December 01, 2010, 02:43:23 AM
I have several computers being monitored/controlled.  BoincTask often restarts and usually crashes.  I am using .87
Anyone else having issues?

Mark,

Fred Melgert, the developer/moderator is probably asleep right now, so I'll respond.  BoincTasks is a very complex application, getting more so all the time as features are added.  Crashes can be caused by a number of things, at least half of which are not BoincTasks' fault.

Firstly, you will want to make another post here listing your
- operating system including any Service Packs (e.g. WinVista SP2) of the localhost (machine BoincTasks is installed on)
- bit width (32 or 64 bit)
- version(s) of BOINC you are running on local and remote machines (latest 'official' version is 6.10.58)
Also say whether or not you are running Tthrottle, which can connect to BoincTasks to provide CPU/GPU temperature information.

Secondly, I would normally recommend you update BoincTasks from v0.87 to the latest Beta which is v0.91, but one individual reported that it was crashing for him.  So I won't, even though it is stable at my house..  Fred may want to give you access to another version, say v0.90, but that's up to him.

Thirdly, I recommend that you enable debug mode:
- Pull down menu Show>Show log
- At the bottom of the Logging dialog hit Clear, check "Enable debug mode", hit Ok
That will (maybe) log useful information about what's happening in your system.

Fourthly, every time BT crashes, it generates a dumpfile [BoincTasks_087_(date)_nn.dmp].  The exact location of this file depends on your operating system.  Fred may ask you to zip (they are quite large) and upload (FTP) one to him for analysis.

Lastly, the online User Manual (click here) may have information that will help you.

Best wishes.

Wish List / Synchronize with account manager
December 01, 2010, 01:58:42 AM
Is it possible to get wishlist item
Quote- Add the account manager, remove etc.
moved up the priority list?  I've been moving my project resource shares around quite a lot lately, and it would be nice to have a one-click "Synchronize with "BAM!" :)  That's about the only thing I still have to start up BoincMgr for ;)

Long time delayed but at last I've done this afternoon.

As you know I'm mariner...

Sorry Corsair, this is off-topic but I couldn't resist: the proper phrase is "Yo no soy marinero, soy capitan." (La Bamba) ;D

Felicidades.

Notices appear to be broken in this version.  Selecting a computer known to have notices, the Notices tab displays
QuoteThis program cannot display the webpage

  Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

  What you can try:
Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected.

    Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

    More information

This problem can be caused by a variety of issues, including:

Internet connectivity has been lost.
The website is temporarily unavailable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) is not reachable.
The Domain Name Server (DNS) does not have a listing for the website's domain.

Since I'm posting this, obviously I have Internet connectivity.  The notices are displaying correctly in BM (6.12.6α).  It looks like the notices.html file is not being created.  Maybe something to do with the fix
QuoteChanged: Notices: Don't show more, on notices without an link ???

Note: I usually use GoogleChrome as my default browser.  On a hunch I changed default to Internet Explorer, but no change in behavior.

Yeah, accessing BOINC proxy settings causes BT to crash and restart silently.

Ditto for me (Win7_x64 localhost running BOINC 6.12.6α).  .dmp file available (37MB zipped).  The application log (in debug mode) didn't manage to log anything before the crash.

External links are always executed by the default html browser.

But when you don't have html assigned to a browser, the system may want to open something else.
Try opening the notices.html file file:///C:/Users/.../AppData/Roaming/eFMer/BoincTasks/html/notices.html and see what happens.

I'm familiar with the concept of a default browser, and have one assigned.  The point is that these notices have no external link included so there is nothing for the browser to do.  So Windows' default action is to open the File Manager on the file location.  Manually opening the notices.xml file in the browser produces exactly the same page seen on the notices tab. Clicking the more... hyperlink here produces another copy, and another, and so forth.

See the source listing of notices.xml below--more... hyperlink is created but nothing for it to open:

<P><FONT SIZE=3>_("Message from") AQUA@home: _("No work available for the applications you have selected.  Please check your project preferences on the web site.")</FONT></P>

<hr size="1" align="left" width="100%" color="#bbbbbb">

</BODY>

</HTML>

BT users who are not HTML-savvy may think they are missing out on important information.  I assume this is why the BM developers suppressed the more... hyperlink on their Notices tab if there is no external link.  Note that if the notice contains a valid external link, the process works correctly.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 0.90
November 23, 2010, 06:58:36 PM
Thanks for the quick work on this release 8)

QuoteI haven't seen any BT crashes with v0.89 as reported by Beyond & Corsair.  Instead BT is repeatedly dropping/reconnecting one of my remote hosts every few seconds, while remaining connected to localhost & the other remote.
I'm not seeing the "dropping/reconnecting" behavior as with 0.89 ;D

The random numbers are gone.  Per the version description for v0.88
QuoteAdd: Projects: Extra counter for non CPU intensive tasks like FreeHAL. Format CPU/GPU/LOW, LOW only shown when > 0.
the 3rd value is suppressed when =0 :)

The new Notices tab looks good, with one minor glitch.  All notices include the more... hyperlink, even those that don't actually have a link to the project website.  Clicking more... on these "one-liner" notices just opens a File Manager window to the stored file:///C:/Users/.../AppData/Roaming/eFMer/BoincTasks/html/notices.html.  In BM, only notices with an actual link to the project have the more... hyperlink.
