Translations / The languages.xml file explained
December 21, 2009, 03:09:48 PM
This is what's in the file:

<languageList>
   <Language>
      <NameEnglish>System</NameEnglish>
      <Name>System</Name>
      <Id></Id>
   </Language>
   <Language>
      <NameEnglish>English</NameEnglish>
      <Name>English</Name>
      <Id>1033</Id>
   </Language>
</LanguageList>

Edit the file with a simple text editor like notepad(.exe)

The languages.xml is located in the folder /lang just below the BoincTasks.exe
These languages are displayed in Extra->Settings->General->Language.

To add an additional language, add the following:

   <Language>
      <NameEnglish>Dutch</NameEnglish>
      <Name>Nederlands</Name>
      <Id>1043</Id>
   </Language>

The language name is displayed in the dropdown list as Nederlands (Dutch).
The id number can be found in Help->Show Log as:

User: 1043 (NLD), System: 1043 (NLD), Used: 1033 (ENU)

User: User selected language.
System: The OS installed language.
Use: The actually selected language.

The language selection sequence is:

1) The selected language.
2) The User language.
3) The System language.
4) The Fallback language 1033 (ENU) = English.

The initial selection is the first item in the list. In this case System = no language selected use User, System or Fallback.

Make sure you use the latest Beta version with the latest text.

Priority / eFMer Priority
December 18, 2009, 06:33:45 PM
Priority is a TThrottle spin-off.

Before version 1.73, this was an integral part of TThrottle, as the cuda tab. Because this feature didn't quite belong in the TThrottle program, I removed it.
Priority is quite similar, and has only one purpose, the modification of the priority of a list of processes (programs) and all of its threads.

Program / Process is where you put in the complete name of the program. The name will match any running program, that has this name in it.
Press v Add v to put the program in the list.

Below the list is a priority selection, use high priorities with extreme care. Set high may cause system instabilities.

Every (refresh rate) seconds, the computer is scanned, for the running processes that are in the list.
A setting of 10-20 should be ideal.

There is a graph, that can give you some more information.

http://efmer.eu/download/boinc/priority/Priority_1_2.zip Version 1.2

V 1.2:

Added: Idle and Lowest thread priority.
Fixed: The about box wasn't shown.

When 2 single-threaded apps are running on my computer, the Tasks' "CPU %" column show they use around 93% of CPU. I suppose it means of a real/virtual core.

When a 2-thread multithreaded Aqua is running, the "CPU %" column shows it uses 100% of CPU. I suppose the CPU usage was calculated at around 170-180% and was clipped to 100%.

Fred or we should agree on whether, in such case, the column should display some 89% (of the whole CPU in the computer) or 178% (of one typical core). I'd prefer and heartly recommend making it user-selectable ::) because I know each one prefers the other way :D
All values are per core. I want to keep this so for now, because if you have a 4-8 core cpu these values become harder to comprehend.
The values are a bit dependent on what the project executable report in. Older BOINC versions always report 100%.
And indeed the value is max 100%, but on a multi threaded application... it should be 200% or more. A bug report, use the actual CPU's used. If e.g. 2 C use max of 200%.

And I deleted the double entry in BT 0.32

V 0.33

- (ADD) A icon in the computer bar indicates not connected.
- (ADD) The add project dialog now has an option, to create an account, while adding a project.
- (CHANGED) Tasks view: Different gpu detection. Now Use value is used. If  + or , xx > 0, gpu is used. This is used for the color rows only.
- (CHANGED) Tasks view: Warnings improved handling of different CPU / GPU use. It's now possible to tailor warnings to specific tasks. Read the manual for more details.
- (CHANGED) Removed quick and dirty mode. (obsolete)
- (FIXED) Tasks view: Throttle displays 101% when there is no GPU detected, now 0.
- (FIXED) Task view: Cpu % column is not shown properly. Too small.
- (FIXED) Project view: The sorting of the credit columns was sometimes incorrect. (off by a couple of credits)
- (FIXED) A potential crash when closing BoincTasks.

Sure, I understand, it would be a lot to do it all at once.
Just an idea.
I use it as input and as always something will filter trough. As a result I added a disconnected icon to the computer bar. So you can see the connected computers more easily.

For the moment that goes beyond what I had planned. ;D

The computer window is intended for selection only. I personally never touch that window, once it is set up.
The computer toolbar now holds all selected computers. You can select any number of computers from that window.

Most of the commands are already in the most used windows.

The selection in computers is not that fancy, but removing computers is not something you do all the time. And if you do, one at a time is a lot safer.

Maybe someday when I have absolutely nothing else to do. ;D

Hi Fred,

I'm ready for Spaniard translation, but if everything goes under schedule, probably
I'd come back to the sea service in the next few days, so I won't have so much time
for testing and translate.
:'(
;D You are a bit early. As I stated, I'm not ready for translation for some time to come.
It will hinder the progress of the project too much. BoincTasks must first come to a point that the number of changes is less than it is now. ::)
I think half way 2010, to be a better time.

Hi Fred,

as per above. :)
I see  ;D, will start on a new version next week, to solve these kind of problems, once and for all.
A more fundamental solution is needed, to solve this.

FAQ / Re: Cuda Tab
December 16, 2009, 03:00:46 PM
As of version 1.73 this feature is no longer part of the default installation.
On the download page look for TThrottle Special Edition.

If there are enough request I may even consider a stripped down version.

I'm still in need of an native English speaker, to check on the English translations.
Of both program and Web site.

Languages we have translators for:

Bulgarian: Nick, Team Cor Serpentis
Dutch: Fred, Seti@Netherlands
French: worldcommunitygrid équipe France
German: Seti.Germany
Polish: Telefax, BOINC@Poland
Romanian: ochiuletz,  SETI.Romania
Slovak: Pepo
Spanish: Corsair

BoincTasks is easy to translate. All the text is in the language file BoincTasks_xxx.btlang
The file can/must be read by a simple text editor like notepad.exe.
My favorite text editor for this is Notepad++.

Make sure you contact me first, before proceeding. Just in case someone else is already translating the same language.

Start BoincTasks and look in Help->Show Log. At the beginning you find the 3 character language code of you computer.
This language code must be inserted at the end like BoincTasks_xxx.btlang -> BoincTasks_ENU.btlang

Warning:

Don't use spaces at the end or at the beginning of a text. Only use tabs!
Spaces at the end of a text are made with %20 = single space.
But don't use tabs inside the text, as tabs are removed entirely.

%d represents a number and MUST not be removed. You may place it in another location in the text, but don't remove it.

%09 = tab, is used to align text horizontally.

And make sure you start with the latest beta release.

Warning set the correct Code page:

To change the code page::

Open Control Panel » Region (and Language)
Select the Administrative tab.
Click the button "Change system locale ..." and select the correct one.
So the system locale MUST be the same as the translations you plan to make.

Hi Fred,

I'm experience high temperatures in laptop I think due a project:
Ibercivis is running under:
bless-docking_1.16_windows_intelx86.exe ---> CDOCK.exe
this last it's only present in the Slots folder, because in the
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Datos de programa\BOINC\projects\registro.ibercivis.es
is present only this one: CDOCK_win_2.0.exe

if I activate in the BOINC Tab the "Show all" option I could see only "cdock_win_2.0"

in Process explorer I see
---> bless-docking_1.16_windows_intelx86.exe ---> cdock.exe

and in TThorttle I see this.

Número de programas coincidentes (Procesos): 1
Cpu: bless-docking_1.16_windows_intelx86.exe, PID: 5244, Hilos: 3
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------   1 0 0 0

this is the laptop with TT version 1.73 x86 with set temperature of 68º Celsius and having readings
of 69.x to 70.x, this is not the first time that this happens, I remember in early version of TT that
there was another throttling problem with this project and if I remember same program.
Check in the BOINC/slots and check what application you find there.

Wish List / Re: Tooltips over truncated strings
December 15, 2009, 06:18:31 PM
Quote from: Pepo on December 15, 2009, 11:07:49 AM
It often happens that some columns are a bit narrow and trailing parts of message / application / task / project / date / time / etc. string are "truncat..." :) To be able see the hidden text, it is necessary to enlarge (and then narrow back) the column.

  • When hovering mouse cursor over such text, a tool tip containing the whole text could be displayed.
  • Such tooltip is usally left-aligned with the original text. But if the tool tip would be displayed through the right display border (or left border for any right-to-left reading locale? ;D OK kidding now), it's position should be shifted to the left as much as necessary to display the whole tool tip on-screen. (A good example of ignoring such situation is Boinc Manager - it has no problem :-\ to display tooltips obscured by the screen border.)
You give me interesting problems ;D, I added that one to the list.
