Wish List / Re: Stopping tasks

Fred,
Does this mean I can stop loading the Boinc Manager on startup for all my machines, and use Boinc Tasks to control the core client?

Walt
That should work right now. Extra-Settings->Start BOINC client at login/startup.
When BoincTasks starts it checks if the client is already running, if not it starts the client. Something like BOINC Manager does.
It is tested on a couple of computers, but I got no reports in, if this actually works on other computers.
The only thing you can't do right now is stopping the client using BoincTasks.

Found the problem.
But are the ^ ^2 and ^3  in projects not in the same state and column after exit and startup?
I can't find anything wrong there.

1) sorting arrangement not saved for next time that program is started, the sorting became as
default as 1, 2 & 3 column, instead the last preferences of the user.

as email yesterday the sorting in Projects tab is not the desired, whatever sorting you create is not followed.
Only with the projects?
The sorting is only "wrong" with numbers not percentages
And do one other check. Try ^3 instead of ^2 and see if the sorting is correct.
(Remove the ^2)
So ^Credits and ^3 Credits Host.

Hi Fred,

first impression is really good  the way of selecting the computers is quite good (perfect).

was in the wish list a column in the Project tab with the warehouse time for each project??, on that way the active projects with no job available could have another colour, like "warehouse empty" or "run out of work".

and how is going on the logging of finished work and tab for it??
The project tab, display WU and out of work as an different color was lost, but not forgotten.

The finished work tab. ;D
To make this not too slow even on computer with a lot of wu I was thinking of combining all wu link the filtering.
In this way I don't have to store thousands of WU. That would slow down things quit a lot.
I was thinking about capturing the downloads and uploads and combine them in the history tab.
So you get 512 WU completed 6.08 setiathome 64 error with the total runtime.
Logging per day or so, to get a weekly log.

I look forward to trying out version 0.27.  Once I get it up an running I'll let you know how things work.

Walt
I hope this new version solves the problem. I could replicate it on my computer....

Questions / Re: CPU %

What does CPU % mean exactly and what does it mean when you get a CPU ratio warning?

Also what does it mean when there is no CPU % for a running task ?
Mostly used by GPU tasks. In elapsed time the first column is the total elapsed time, the second () is the time the program actually ran.
The CPU % is the percentage of those two times. So 10% means the CPU ran 10% of it's time to feed the GPU.
This is a good way to check if a GPU task is running normally.

V 0.27

- (ADD) Shutting down the BOINC client and stopping of the science exe, in the File menu.
- (ADD) Starting the BOINC client in the File menu.
- (ADD) Message view: Copy selected text from messages to the clipboard.
- (ADD/CHANGED) A third column sorting, using the right control key. The left is used for second column sorting.
- (CHANGED) The computer selection bar starts with all computers selected.
- (CHANGED) The computer selection bar is more tree like, with an all computer selector.
- (CHANGED) Made the toolbar shorter so it doesn't includes doubles with the view selection bar.
- (CHANGED) The sorting is no longer case sensitive (lower case sorting).
- (FIXED) In property the disk usage was always 0.
- (FIXED) The row marking colors, (dark, lighter) were sometimes off.
- (FIXED) The uploads where not filtered.
- (FIXED) Some passwords refused to be stored. Hopefully this version is completely compatible with the previous versions.
- (FIXED) Message view: Non combined mode. On rare occasions there were blank lines with init in the first column.
- (FIXED) Transfer view: The sorting on the % was incorrect.

Beta Testing / Re: % of Work done.

Another thing seen in this last version (0.26) with % of work done,
with MW I've seen:
- started crunching but no CPU bar shown, and % is growing, sometimes
happens when there is a crash in the GPU driver (CAL/ATI).
- if a MW WU has been stopped or "running" not properly the CPU bar is
coloured as the stated one in preferences (below certain %), if WU is restarted
the % of CPU is very little but the progress is correct, and for that reason the
color remains as error, when is really crunching correct. I've notice this e.g.
MW is "running"  for half an hour, and the WU is restarted, use to be crunched
in 1 minute this WU.
You mean the CUDA of CPU Milkyway WU. The CUDA is very very short and uses only a few % of CPU time.
It is probably running properly, but something else may take up it's CPU time like a AP CAL task.
But I have some MW in stock.

Beta Testing / Re: Status not correctly setup

I've seen that there are one type of WU that are not properly defined the status,
this are the ones that gives "download error" state as "Downloading" and 100%
of work done in BT and remain with download colour "for ever".

I've checked this with BoinView and Boinc Manager and the correct one is "Download
error" and could be adhered to the colour of error WU.
It is in the list under high. The description was a bit incomplete. This is hard to test.
I've never ever had one.

I found the problem  ???. The encryption algorithm can produce zero's and zero's are used as the end of a string. ;D
Should not be a problem to solve as I now know what's going on.

Do you remember Fred??

that I had the same problem with a computer that always lost the password when
exited and started again, at last we did a new password for that computer, less
length of password, since such action no other error was found, and always entering
in the program without any problem.
If you find a password that won't work that would be nice.

I have 3 machines I run BOINC on, 2 desktops (1 XP Pro-32 bit, 1 XP Home-32 bit) and 1 laptop (Vista - 64 bit).  Everytime I restart BoincTasks (say after a reboot of the system) I have to re-enter the password for the laptop. Here's the error from the log:

03 November 2009 - 15:24:57 computers ---- Name: laptop, IP: laptop
encrypt/decrypt error, before: bd01d44a546b0230f443ed6bbb1ea724 after: ÚÀ·™´¡Ï...<{>3

Despite the error, BT still connects to all 3 machines, it is only if I exit out of BT and re-start it, that I have to re-enter the password.

I am presently running BT v0.25, but this problem has existed since I started running BT @ v0.21.

Is it possible that the error is caused because the machine I run BoincTasks on runs XP Pro, and the laptop Vista, since I don't get this problem with the connection to the other XP machine?

Walt
When the information is written to an xml file.
What happens is the password is first encrypted next translated to xml characters like %231%123%126.
As a check I reverse the process and should get the same password again.
But something goes wrong.
I think it is some kind of special character you use in your password. I tried every character on the keyboard.
If you want to tell me by email if there is one. And what the length of the password is.
