Questions / Re: Odd Behavior/Crashing with TThrottle
October 16, 2009, 07:08:50 AM
Quote from: noderaser on October 16, 2009, 04:07:40 AM
I noticed some interesting behavior after I installed TThrottle... Two identical crashes, both occurring when I was away from the computer. The symptoms of the crash included non responsiveness of the computer, including a replicated task bar at the top of the screen, and alternating black/white screen sometimes with an error message in an odd (non-system) font. Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work, but everything seems ok after doing a hard restart of the computer. Whatever the error/crash might be, it causes BOINC WUs to error out immediately as I have exceeded my WU limit for this host on various projects.

After removing Tthrottle from the startup, the host has run for about 20 hours without replicating the error. Until installing Tthrottle, I have not experienced any crashes or erroring WUs. Any pointers on what to look for would be much appreciated. If you would like info from the errored WUs, I can provide that if necessary.

TThrtottle 1.69 (64-bit)
BOINC 6.6.36
Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit) SP2
AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ (Brisbane)
4 GB
Strange, but to see more I like the TThrottle log.
Exit BOINC and check close all.
Next start TThrottle, go to the logging tab and copy everything in it and send it to me.

Translations / Re: Slovak translation

At some point in time I'd like to make a Slovak translation.

It should be also understandable for most Czech users, or a good starting point to create their native translation. (I could also create a rough Czech translation in paralell, but I do not intend to be laughed out ;D.)
The file is on its way. ;D

Beta Testing / Re: % of Work done.

Quote from: Corsair on October 14, 2009, 09:42:46 PM
Hi Fred,

I've notice some difference that are making me crazy.

e.g. Seti@home Beta with AP same WU at the same time,
reported by different programs:
Boinc Manager -- BoincView -- Boinc Tasks
37.86  ------------     37.86 ------- 23.99
23.57  ------------     23.57 ------- 13.44
11.79  ------------     11.79 ------- 10.77
06.60  ------------     06.60 ------- 09.20
00.97  ------------     00.97 ------- 05.70

I don't know how is calculated this, but I think this should be reported by the BOINC Manager ??.

Another thing, it use to be with WUs of some projects of Ibercivis, that in the Boinc Manager and
BoincView are working but progress bar is at 0% during the whole calculation but in BoincTasks
you could see % done (good).
I've seen that, but I think BoincTasks version is better. ;D It really goes from 0 - 100 .
But maybe the BOINC Manager way is more accurate.
Mine is more related to the real clock as is is using the elapsed time and the time left.
And the AP values are off most of the time anyway, so it's only an estimate.

Wish List / Re: Graph scaling

The scaling is now done with all settings e.g. Temperature and Percentage even if the Temperature of Percentage is not there.
If you mean this let me know and I make it a "wish", to scale only on the displayed item.
Hmm, and I can see the opposite: if I select just the temperature(s) or just the percentage, the graph is scaled accordingly. I believe it is also right this way.

I've meant something else. Just encountered it actually behaves differently at the bottom and at the top of the graph (so my description was not exact, the bottom graph part already behaves exactli how I like it 8) so let me rephrase this):

Quote from: PepoCurrently when any curve touches any 10º line from bootom up (e.g. 90,1º), the graph is resized accordingly, that an additional free 10º area is visible above the touched line.
When any curve touches any 10º line from upside down (e.g. 70,0º), the graph still not resized and just an additional free 1º area is visible below the touched line.
But only when any curve crosses any 10º line from upside down and goes below (to e.g. 69,9º), the graph is resized accordingly, that an additional free 10º area is visible below the crossed line.
An example: When the Throttling curve is constantly drawn at exactly 100% (and just the throttling Percentage graph is being displayed), the graph is displaying the area from 99º to 111º. (With this extreme example, I would expect either 99º to 101º or 89º to 111º.)

Could the resizing be redefined to "If any curve crosses any 10º line (i.e. should be displayed at e.g. 91º or 69º), then the graph is resized by one more completely free 10º area above/below"? (So my example throttling percentage graph would be drawn in a 99º to 101º area graph.)
A picture ? To make sure we understand each other.

Wish List / Re: Graph scaling
October 14, 2009, 10:47:13 AM
Quote from: Pepo on October 14, 2009, 09:06:21 AM
One wish to the automatic graph scaling:
Currently when any curve touches any 10º line, the graph is resized accordingly, that an additional free 10º area is visible on both sides of the touched line.
When the Throttling curve is constantly drawn at 100% (and the temperature curves are below it), the graph is unnecessarily resized by one more completely free 10º area above the line (100º - 110º). But there is actually one more free area 1º wide.
Could the resizing be redefined to "If any curve crosses any 10º line (i.e. should be displayed at e.g. 91º or 69º), then the graph is resized by one more completely free 10º area above/below"?

A bug:
When my target temperature is set to 75ºC, after changing the preference to use ºF, the target temperature is recalculated to 167ºF, but the graph remains displaying the target temp line at 75ºF. Even after changing the target Fahrenheit temperature, the graph keeps displaying the target line at its Celsius temperature.
That's what you get when you keep adding and forget..
The scaling is now done with all settings e.g. Temperature and Percentage even if the Temperature of Percentage is not there.
If you mean this let me know and I make it a "wish", to scale only on the displayed item.

The bug is noted.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 0.22.0

  • In the Computers window, I can see a computer with password in cleartext and the port is displayed as "*****". (This happens after creating a computer.)
After restarting BT (or closing and reopening Computers window), the password is displayed as "*****".
  • I've two BOINC clients accessible, one over localhost:31416, another (actually remote, tunnelled through local port 31417) one as localhost:31417. Although I've defined just the remote computer and specified a password for it, BT still obtains the password from localhost's client folders, instead of using the specified password:
16:34:14 computers ---- Computer = localhost get local password: 460c71e1a7a6f5398g3ce74hb963fk7c
    16:34:14 computers ---- remotemachine , localhost
16:34:14 Connect, passwd ---- Host: localhost, remotemachine,Port: 31417, scheduler request host ID doesn't match authenticator (Passwrd)

Just like the manual states for the port numbers "Leave the port column empty in the computers window, unless you know exactly what your are doing.", the same should be true for passwords and if a password is specified for a computer line, BT should obey it and not guess according to the "localhost" in the IP address.
Stupid me I will change the password/port **** mixed up.
I will change the localhost, the password will be the one supplied.

Hi Fred,

still showing "% CPU" in ready to report and Uploading.

I don't see anything else apart what is in the wish list.
As it should, because the info is valid.
So you can see how efficient your task has been.

;) UHmmmm, no.

1) why valid??, I don't care about the past efficiency when a task is paused, stopped, ready for report or uploading,
what I really want to see is what is crunching now. otherwise you could think that CPU/GPU is doing something
else when this is not the case. of course if you see to the state or the colour could be enough, but you know that
in a quick view don't see so much and just the thing or things that you use to see (or we want to see) ;)

2) still the manual refresh of windows only works in tasks windows, in the other ones is almost continuous.
1) For now I like it, if I get more complaints I may do something about it.
2) Is in the wish list.

Hi!

first I like do report a trobble about actualy the task tab of eFMer boinc task version 0.20.
when you stop boinc by user and reactivate it then will be not actualy the view of % by an cuda task (boinc starts the task by 0% but ther view of eFMer contines by the old % value)

second I like to ask how I can download the version 0.21 (the link on the homepage is only to ther version 0.20 or version 0.22 beta)

http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/download.html Sorry about the download, it now links correctly.
You best try V 0.22 because I fixed a bug that relates to that problem.
If you still have that problem, I note it as a bug and try to fix it in the next version.

Hi Fred,

15) e.g. Projects windows, you want to select the whole projects of one or two computers,
so you deselect from the left panel the ones you don't need, and in the projects windows
you try to select all of then with the mouse, left click and leaves clicked until you get the
selection (selection window with mouse), with this method you don´t get any selections.
Clicking the first one, hold down shift and select the last one.  Or hold down the control key and select or deselect on by one.
But I see a potential problem with the shift and control detection, when the project view looses focus.

01) explain some more so I know what you mean.

05) Please explain.
08) Message tab, do you mean add more colors for states.
Tasks: please only the once your missing so I can follow it.
Request: Project view: Add colors for Work buffer empty, no new tasks, suspended.
The rest when the a new history view has added, one thing at a time.
15) ???? what?
01) the CPU/GPU usage if could be selected to display or the progress bar or a number only, sometimes as they're close one each other I confuse the progress with the CPU%.
05) a grid for the row and columns to show in the windows.
08) yes,
messages, colours missing: warning / error, user warning / error
tasks, colours missing: WU may hit the DL, WU near the DL, WU over the DL, WU paused, WU running but slow ("error CPU ratio"), WU finished with error ("Error"), WU suspended.
Projects, colour missing: suspended, no work allowed, work buffer empty.
the other Tab I'll remember when the day will come.
15) when you point, e.g. in project tab by means of a window selection with the mouse nothing is selected or the window exchanged of size, shape before release the click and nothing is done.
01) Added in the wish list: Switching the CPU Perc bar on/off
05) There is... an alternating color on the row. In the column I don't think that is necessary to do so.
08) Added to the wish list:
Messages: add colors for all available states.
Tasks: = high priority already there.
Tasks: Add color for suspended, Ratio is already there, Error is already there for CPU and GPU.
Projects: in the list: colors suspended, no work allowed, buffer empty.
15) This one I don't understand. Tell me more.

01) explain some more so I know what you mean.
02) will be difficult.
03) Ah someone noticed, it is meant for following the right task, but it is a bit erratic at the moment after I changed the sorting.
something to fix.... sometime.
04) (BUG) sometimes the progress bar is missing, when a task is in Waiting to run.
05) Please explain.
06) Request (low): Add an account manager.
07) Request (low): User defined font, size and color.
08) Message tab, do you mean add more colors for states.
Tasks: please only the once your missing so I can follow it.
Request: Project view: Add colors for Work buffer empty, no new tasks, suspended.
The rest when the a new history view has added, one thing at a time.
09) Already in the list.
10) Request (low): Auto start BOINC Client as well, if it is not running when BoincTasks starts.
11) I don't think so
12) Request (low): In the project view add a column Tasks for the tasks per project.
13) The graph is much better at that.
14) Request (low): Manually rearrange the column sequence in all views.
15) ???? what?
16) Request (low): Menu update projects for the selected computer(s) only.
17) Request: A better way to select the Messages. E.g. from the computer selection window, if only one is selected use that a the selected computer.

FAQ / Troubleshooting the connection
October 11, 2009, 05:00:11 PM
First of all read the first part of the http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual.html

First try if BoincTasks runs on your local machine.

A) Enable logging in BoincTasks.
Take the file log.xml, found here: C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\examples\log
And copy it to C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log
Change:
<connecting>         1   </connecting>
So make sure there is a 1 = enabled.
Go to Show->Log and check "Enable debug mode".
Exit BoincTasks and start it again.

B) Try to use FIXED (STATIC) IP addresses first, as of 1.54 a MAC address may be used, to allow dynamic IP addresses. How to use dynamic IP addresses

C) If you use the remote computer name instead of the IP address, don't forget to add the right name, to the remote_hosts.cfg file on your remote computer. Use net view (on the command prompt) on both computers to check if the names are recognized. (Don't add the \\). But names are not recommended, try to use static IP addresses.

D) Make sure you left the port column, next to the IP Address, empty in the computers window. Unless you know exactly, why you changed the default port number.

E) Goto the command prompt and Ping your remote computer. Like ping 192.168.10.11 and ping the computer from the other side as well.

F) Keep an eye on the messages, on the remote computer. The BOINC log on the remote machine will show any refused connections.

G) Enable logging in BoincTasks in menu Help->Show log Check "Enable debug mode". In computers only select one computer and restart BoincTasks. Try to connect to that computer and watch the logging.

H) Make sure the firewall is open on both computers, for the port You use. The default port is 31416 (Pi).
Normally this involves, adding the BOINC client (C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinc.exe and BOINC Tasks (C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\boinctasks(64).exe) to the trusted program list. (or Applications Rules).

I) If you are using a local computer, disconnect the router from the Internet, and give BoincTasks unrestricted access. (In other words, disable the firewall on all systems)

J) Add the computer name of the control computer to the remote_host.cfg as well as the IP address. One on each line.
The file is usually located here: C:\ProgramData\BOINC

J) And don't forget, the Boinc client MUST be restarted after every change you made. The best way, is to simply restart the remote computer, after the changes in the password and access file are saved.

K) At this point it's more convenient, but not necessary, when TThrottle is running on the remote computer(s). BoincTasks, from the menu Show->Computers, next Computes -> Find computers. The Address: should be the first one in the net, like 192.168.1.1. Press "Scan address range".

Don't forget to read this: Automatically add computers
