Wish List / Re: Fan 'control'
« on: April 09, 2009, 10:05:15 pm »
I run TThrottle on a laptop and it works very well. When it sits idle, the temperature stays steady, but when I work on it there are times the fan revs up. Then TThrottle increases the % run time of the applications and the fan naturally stays on high speed.

I would like the laptop to stay with medium fan speed, as the small fan is quite noisy on high speed. The thing that I miss in TThrottle is some way of controlling the fan speed.

The idea would be that the user can specify a range (min and max) for the fan RPM. The primary goal of TThrottle would be to adjust the run time to reach this fan speed. The secondary goal (once the desired fan speed is reached) would be to control the temperature of the CPU.

Thank you,
This is one thing that is on my to look into list. It is probably highly dependent on the hardware and specific to a machine.
But I haven't dug in deep enough to know the exact problems. It should be doable and would be a nice addition I will try to do it, when I have the time.....

Another quick one - it would be useful to have the current GPU and CPU temperature limit rendered as a colored horizontal bar on the graph.

Ok Iso,

Added to the list.

Wish List / Re: Configuration of two thermal data sets
« on: March 27, 2009, 08:27:14 pm »
I would like to be able to store two sets of TThrottle temperature limit settings:
- one for "normal operation" (i.e. run as fast as you can as long as you don't melt my CPU/GPU),
- one for "quiet operation" (i.e. I am sat at my PC working and don't want my GPU fan distracting me by running at 100% speed, but 60% is OK).

If you could fast select which of these is active using the tray icon right click menu it would also be brilliant =)

Thanks for the app b.t.w. - very useful.
Ok Iso,

Added to my to do list

I will see if that is possible, will put it on my to do list.

Hi ledled,

I will look into that, looks your font is wider than what I see.
This should not be possible.....

Questions / Re: Quad-Prozessor, which core is used
« on: March 25, 2009, 08:00:28 pm »
Hi Yeti,

All Intel processors have a sensor in each core, so if you see 4 readings there are 4 core sensors present.

Good point I will change this in the next version to the core with the highest temperature.

Hi D,

In the next version I will rectify this. At the moment only programs that are present at startup of TThrottle are detected. But some projects change a lot so when a new task is loaded it is not throttled at the moment. In the next version I will implement some form of intelligent scanning of the BOINC project directory.

You can see the programs that are found by selecting "Show All" in the "BOINC" tab.

#  Restart the computer and during startup, press F8.

# Select Advanced Boot Options.

# Select Disable Driver Signature Enforcement.

Now install TThrottle.

But this is a one time fix only. You have to find a way around the driver signing.
A number of users have good results with ReadyDriverPlus and Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider. (But as always on your own risk)

The goal is a signed driver but that costs money. See the donation info in the download page.
This year I got $50 and we need about 250 a year.......

TThrottle should detect a new task such as astropulse.
In the BOINC tab click "Show All" and astropulse_5.03_windows_intelx86.exe should be there.
But the checking is probably done only at startup.
I will see if I can improve this detection.

Ok accepted for the next version.

Wish List / Re: Method to speed up the ' rebuilding thread list' function
« on: February 27, 2009, 10:37:57 am »
;D Will add that to V 1.55. Look under beta version in the download page. You find the function it in the Expert Tab. The value at Rebuild list after .. seconds.
