Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.58
December 04, 2013, 01:01:58 PM
I installed BoincTasks v1.58 beta over (currently recommended) BOINC client v7.2.33.

In the tab overview 'Projects':
I click to one or a few project/s, they are highlighted in blue.
If I exit BoincTasks and open again later, sometimes other projects are highlighted in blue - .. no problem/only mentioned. ;)

But, it's possible to uncheck the project/s that the highlighted in blue is away?

An other question ..
In config.xml, what does mean:
<refresh>

- I still use <uploads> & <downloads>.
They are obsolete now?

Thanks.

I know - my english isn't perfect, but I thought I wrote it understandable..

I wanted to know if it's possible to show all WUs individually - not combined.
And - yes it's, I found this function after a lot searching.

Yes - I know that I could edit my messages.
But who will see it that I changed the old message and added more, because I thought noone understood what I meant?
The thread get in the overview also the 'new' added?

But, it doesn't matter.. - it's O.K. ..

In BT the default settings are like 'show only active tasks' (in BOINC Manager terms).
In contrast to the BM, BT show all others (results for UL, WUs for DL, WUs are ready for calculation) additional summarized.

It's possible to show all WUs individually in BT, like it's possible in the BM?

It's possible to show all DLed WUs individually in BoincTasks/Tasks overview?
To now I didn't found the settings..

E.g. for to show the estimated times of the DLed WUs.

In the meantime I found this settings alone..

Maybe you/someone know at least one other BOINC project except S@h (& BETA) which is still using also the 'CreditNew'?
Or at least one BOINC project which used/tested it and canceled it again?

S@h is 'BOINC BETA'. ;)  :(

Fred, maybe it's possible to 'extend' the BoincRescheduler that the S@h server get info about the rescheduling on the machine - and the WUs are relabeled online also?
#21
Maybe I explained it not well enough with my poor english.. :-[

Here is explained how the new Cr.system work: 'CreditNew'.
I don't understand this..

But if I understood the messages correct in the S@h forum, it look like this..
My GPU calculate WUs.
I reschedule a GPU WU to the CPU.
The CPU WU result was sent to S@h.
But the S@h server think it was calculated on the GPU.
Because of the WU calculation was much slower than expected (after a calculation of a few data on/of the S@h server) it give less Cr.
The S@h server think the GPU is much slower now.
The next GPU WUs get less Cr. than it should.
It need some time to get again correct Cr.

Claggy's work around info the S@h server about the rescheduling (GPU -> CPU).
So the Cr.calculation is correct.
#22
If I use your tool, all rescheduled WUs (e.g. GPU -> CPU) are online still marked as they were before (GPU). So the 'new Cr.-system' think they are calculated on GPU (but this guessing is wrong), in real they were calculated on CPU. And calculate & grant wrong Cr.

Claggy's work aroung do, that the S@h scheduler server rename the WUs online, too. And so the Cr.-system calculate & grant the correct Cr. for this and all other following WUs also (later, WUs which aren't rescheduled, they are 'original', are involved later also, because the new Cr.-system add this to the calculation of the Cr.).

Wish List / new function because of new Cr.-system
July 03, 2011, 05:06:03 PM
Maybe it's possible that you change the function of your nice tool?

It looks like the new Cr.-system don't like rescheduled WUs.

Claggy have a work around if he want to reschedule WUs..
NC subforum : 'But for the love of Gandhi! - Message 1123119' and following..

This work maybe for a low RAC machine..
(and currently I have no idea how to do this.. ??? )

If your nice tool delete 'only?' the related entries automatically, so the S@h scheduler server mark the rescheduled WUs new and the new Cr.-system grant the Cr. well for the rescheduled WUs.
If I understood it correct, because following WUs (not rescheduled) are involved also, they get then also correct Cr.

Your nice tool isn't only nice for to reschedule old re-sent VLAR WUs..
I use an other 'VLAR value', so I reschedule now and in future also. After reading the S@h forum it looks like I'm not the only one.
Maybe the performance of my/the machine/s increase, but the RAC/s decrease.

Maybe an overworked version or maybe addition of this function?

This would be super! *thumbs up*

:)

BTW.
It's maybe possible to do this all automatically (within the tool), without to change always the project settings?

Maybe you could add a T to the icon?
You can set up a hot key for BoincTasks.

Hot key? What's this? :o
I don't know how to do this. ???

But OTOH, I click left on the mouse over the systray icon - and BT, BR or P open. ;)
That's faster. ;D

It was just an idea.
Maybe one of the next versions could have a T in the icon?
This would be nice. *thumb up*

BTW. If you could send me the icon/s, I could do it for you. ;)

Fred, I use three tools of you. :)
BoincTasks, BOINC Rescheduler, Priority.
All are together in the systray.
Normally Rescheduler and BoincTasks are side by side in my systray- sometimes I press the wrong icon.. ;D

Priority have a P and Rescheduler have a S in the systray icon.
BoincTasks have no additional letter, why? ;)
Maybe you could add a T to the icon?

O.K. ..

Reboot of the PC.
Start of BT 1.06 .
Connect to localhosts client (DEV-V6.12.28).
I click to all tabs - computer/projects/tasks/transfers/messages/process/notes.
The menu (computation/network) isn't grayed out, I can choose then both 'always'.
My currently going round. ;) So I don't need to wait ~ 2 mins.

Maybe a hint for to debug?

Maybe it's possible (currently I can't test it because of the currently server probs at S@h) that BT make an automatically 'update' retry, and if present all ULs/DLs get a reset/retry, so that BOINC could ask for new work if needed?
And/or, AFAIK if you have ULs ('> CPUs x2') and/or DLs backlogged in BOINC/transfers, BOINC don't ask for new work.
But in my eyes this is nonsense, maybe currently the UL/DL isn't possible, scheduler is available, why not request new work and UL/DL later if it's possible.
You could make it possible that BT/BOINC ask for new work, although ULs/DLs backlogged?
I suspect that BT will not be able to argue the client into "nevertheless ask for some new work", if the client refuses to do so. There is no known backdoor yet. The client would need to be changed.

Fred, just a question. :)
I'm not a coder. ;)

AFAIK, BOINC is open software, all people could edit it.
E.g. if you take the original BOINC V6.12.26 (last recommended) client you could change this rule?
This is the first client which have the nice <max_tasks_reported> feature.

Maybe it's like (after a few code examples here in the forum ???)..
don't request work, if backlogged downloads/uploads
you chance it to..
also request work, if backlogged downloads/uploads

But I worry it's not so easy.. :(

If you are uncertain if it would be worth to do..
Maybe start a poll if other would like to have this client also. ;)

When running, the task's Progress is at 186.040% (thanks for still keeping the unusual reported % values even over 0-100%), when suspended, then it is set to 100.000% (why the difference? does the client report it this way?). In both cases the progress bar correctly does not exceed its box. Interestingly, in both cases the task's Properties dialog reports 0.000% (??)

Elapsed time is now identical in both states, but, well, it sometimes was correct and occasionally not - I've again to notice if it will sometimes get incorrect ::)

Remaining time estimate is "-" in the Tasks tab, but "-01d,03:24:38" in Properties dialog. I'm possibly asking and forgetting this again and again - the estimate comes directly from the client, or co-calculated by BT? The Manager displays always "-" - possibly just its confused reaction on a negative calculated estimate? (Sorry, I'm a "debugging guy" - I'd rather like to directly see all incorrect values, possibly with warnings, than "nice clean display with all unexpected values obscured" :-X)
The values are from the client and most likely incorrectly send by the project application. Probably relies on the Manager to adjust all values above 100 to 100.
If the remaining time is invalid it's shown as -, again a project application error.
It's impossible to have a remaining time < 0 :o.

I never saw progress > 100 %.

Pepo, which CPU it's - AMD or Intel?
IIRC, the AMDs have probs with the test at start of the stock S@h app. Sometimes they are in a loop.
And/or the WUs in question are maybe WUs which were restarted?

Beta Testing / BT 1.06

I installed BoincTasks V1.06 BETA over BOINC DEV-V6.12.28.

I made a config.xml with UL/DL/report+request refresh 600 seconds.

BOINC have currently ~ 120 results ready for UL.

This are the messages:

Yes, it's the localhost.

After a reboot of the PC.
I start BT, connect to the localhost client.. ~ 2 mins until the menu is clickable.
Ok I've seen this before, I will add it to the bug list.
But what happens, BT starts first, than the client starts (this may take some time) and it may take a while before the client reports back everything.
From my experiences..
Reboot of PC. I start BT, connect to the client, after a few seconds I see the messages of the client in BT/Messages.
Then it last ~ 2 mins until the menu is clickable.

Can you try File->Exit and than start BT again and see if it happens, probably not.
I had all running. Computation/network set to never. Exit BT. (In Windows Task-Manager boinc.exe was shown). BT start and menu immediately clickable.
