Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.19

My keyboard is English (United Kingdom), but read on...

QuoteThe left Ctrl key releases all filters with the same status NOT all filters.

OK I was trying to use it to work on one filtered 'Suspended by user' and one filtered 'Ready to start'. I know that when we discussed this prior to release, you said that what I was requesting would cause to heavy a load. I mistakenly took your idea to use CTRL as a method of achieving what I was requesting.

Now reading the small print 'all filters with the same status NOT all filters', I realise why it appears not to be working.

I can now *confirm* that CTRL *is* working and apologise for my misinterpretation of the function.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.19 BT Icon in notification area.

I see that the message format of the popup has changed. Previously it gave a running total of cores e.g. 2,4,6,8 now it simply lists the cores available e.g. 2,2,2,2. Maybe it was felt that the old method was confusing.

Can I suggest that a compromise could be achieved by showing cores and total instead e.g. '2,2,2,2=8' ?

QuoteChanged: Tasks view: A double click with the left Ctrl key pressed will release or set all filters on a selected filter group.
This isn't working for me.  :( CTRL key seems to be ignored because left CTRL + dbl click has the same effect as dbl click without CTRL.

BTW, is there a reason for specifying 'left' CTRL? I knew that left and right ALT can be given different functions, but never saw the same distinction with the CTRL keys (well in Windows anyway)

EDIT: added ALT and rephrased last sentence to make more sense.

I'm sure I will kick myself when I get the answer, but I cannot find anything about webserver apart from your initial post  :-\

OK, I understand now.

I guess the purpose of CTRL is to add a second filter to that specific machine's view. It is basically what I requested, isn't it? (because dbl-clicking on a filtered view only changes the view for that specific machine anyway).

I look forward to seeing and being able to test this.

Integrate in your website. / Testing Webserver

I took a look at this for the first time today from another machine and the only problem I have is that the process is taking 100% of a core which seems a high price to pay just to be able to view info from an external device. I also noted that with Webserver enabled, BT itself becomes very sluggish when making any selections, e.g. tab change or making a change in | Extra | BoincTasks settings |

An additional observation:
Whilst viewing the info on an IE8 device, it was impossible to scroll down the page because the view was permanently being refreshed (setting is the default 3600).

As yet, I have, therefore, not tested the webserver on a mobile device.

Quote from: fred on August 29, 2011, 11:46:52 AMWhat about right mouse key->Filter->Select the item.
Yes. That is what I referring to when I said that I remembered about the quick access to filter settings.  ;)
QuoteAnother thing that's simple, is add Ctrl double click, that releases all filters for a specific type, like Ready to start. For the selected computer only.
I am uncertain how the outcome would differ from what I was requesting. but to clarify, when you say 'is add Ctrl double click' you are referring to a proposed update new feature?

Quote from: fred on August 28, 2011, 01:52:27 PMWhat will be impossible is removing the filter for more than one group. Way too much overhead.
If you want to remove the filter for more than one, you have to remove the filter entirely.
What I will do, if you click on another group, is closing the other one and applying the filter to the new one.
I had a feeling you might say that and was going to say that this would mean having to go into | Extra | BoincTasks settings |  :(

As a compromise, I was about to suggest another option (suppplemental to double clicking a filtered view) to be able to right-click and make a filter/unfilter toggle, so I tried it and realised that that feature is already available. (I had forgotten about my recent discovery of it).

I realise that my question merits an *advanced* feature, but am glad that you had already anticipated it. Accordingly, a small donation has been sent!

Good  ;D

The reason I tried dual selection twice was to show that the outcome is the same no matter which permutation you try.

Micromanagement from a distance is still possible but could be made easier if all WU types could be opened without going through the process at least twice.

Yes. I did click on computer in left column, that's how the right window became blank.

When I clicked on 'All computers', the other computer was amongst the list, but clicking on it presented a blank window. Only a restart of BT allowed data from other computer to be shown.

OK, I'll get onto it. FYI, the tasks are HCC and HFCC but I have also observed the same behaviour with beta WUs.

Perhaps unrelated, but yesterday I was preparing to reboot a machine after a windows update. In BT, I suspended WUs once they has started into a new checkpoint until eventually all threads were paused. I was then clear to restart that machine.

Once it had restarted and Boinc was past initial suspension, I cliked on that machine in BT. All I got was a blank window (NOTE: The other machine was still suspended because of my prior setting). I had expected that BT would show that tasks were suspended but no luck. To check, I then opened one task on the other machine (physically) and still no report in BT about that machine although all other machines were being sucessfully being reported.

I had to physically close BT and reopen in order to get a report on that other machine and was then able to take the remaining WUs out of suspension.

The only project I am running is World Community Grid. Presently I have started to work exclusively on only one type of task, but if you need me to, I could get one machine to process a second type and then I could send you a video screen capture.

Wish List / request for a 'Warning' pop-up
August 25, 2011, 02:47:59 PM
I was wondering if it would be possible for BT to have a popup message to warn when 0 tasks are ready to start.

I am asking for this because I am starting to use BT more and more for micromanagement of all my machines and sometimes if a special type of WU is being offered, I like to deploy a profile that will grab these types exclisively. There are however times when none of these types are available and I have to switch back to my default profile in order to refill my cache.

A popup would be beneficial in reminding me to do this instead of having machines not working to their normal efficiency.

Thanks for reading this and I hope you will be able to give this request your consideration.
