1) BT uses 3 history files, so if one is lost the other one is used. So all 3 have to be corrupted for all to get lost, should be very very rare.
And they are regularly updated as well.
What could happen is that the files can't be read for some reason. E.g. locked by another program or another copy of BT in another user session. This should show in the logging.

You could check the logging C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\log

See if there is any error or warning close to the time this happened.

2) Memory management is a OS thing. Normally some memory that is'n in use is backed up to disk and becomes virtual.
If you show BT or switch, it may take some extra time to get everything back to ram.
But BT isn't very memory hungry so more memory wouldn't help much.
Another thing what happens, if BT request the messages, they are read from file by the client. As this isn't a recent event, the file is read from the disk itself.
If the event is more recent the date is probably read from cache (ram) instead of the disk.

In the next version I will allow the moving parts of the history to long term history. This should speed things up if you have a large history.

Yes,I looked at log and found

"29 September 2011 - 16:11:11 CHistory::ReadFile ---- Unable to read to history file: C:\Users\Jaspreet\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\history\history_Jaspreet-PC.cvs, copy 1
29 September 2011 - 16:11:11 CHistory::ReadFile ---- Unable to read to history file: C:\Users\Jaspreet\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\history\history_Jaspreet-PC.cvs1
29 September 2011 - 16:11:11 CHistory::ReadFile ---- Unable to read to history file: C:\Users\Jaspreet\AppData\Roaming\eFMer\BoincTasks\history\history_Jaspreet-PC.cvs1"

But I noticed that in History folder there are 3 files viz  *.cvs, *.cvs1, *.cvs2

In the log there is no reference to *.cvs2 but in place it refers to *.cvs copy 1

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.21 Restart after Power failure
September 30, 2011, 04:40:29 PM
I just have got the computer restart after power shutdown and on restart of boinc tasks all the previous history was gone and also the number of tasks per week/day was reset. Will it not be better if it writes to disk after some reasonable period and start from the last checkpoint after restart so that data loss can be minimised.

Will it be helpful to BTasks use more Ram for 64 bit version so that it can perform better even when number of tasks are large as for some projects tasks duration is very small and hence the number of tasks in buffer/history goes high.

Just curious to make BTasks run more faster but i am not a programmer and hence do not know much about use of memory to speed up application.
I observed that even after few hours of running when switching to messages or history tab it starts reading from disk or whatever and takes some time to show the results.I wish if it could do the work in the background while running and when switching to a particular tab it should show current results,if possible. 8)

Shall appreciate if an option in right click on Tasks tab when selecting a task of a project be provided. This will save a trip to projects tab. ;D

I have set up a rule so that any task 80% complete should continue and there is a colour change for that.It is working fine in tasks tab of Btasks but in gadget it is not updating the change in colour.

Can you remove the tasks/days and see if the problem goes away.
The installer detects a 32 bit system and installs the 32 bit version. The system may be 64 bit but Wine as far as I know is 32 bit, so Windows is 32 bit.
The first time I removed BT crashed. However problem goes away after restart. Then I put the values as 1 and 1 and the problem comes back.

As regards wine64
http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-b89ca9d7cdf2bc2ddfb23b3e5829219df48524f8 may be of help to you as it says in 2.5

4) You have a point there, it should be, I will check this.
5) This is too specific. I will add an option to show only a certain amount of lines. History is already on the list, some kind of long term history.
8) I corrected all of them. As I don't use tabs a lot, I tend to forget them.
9) That's very specific to your needs, this feature does mess up the history. But I will see what I can do.
10) Debt is an passed station, the new V 7 doesn't use debt any longer. And this are request you address to the BOINC development team. Or request the project to add the option to choose only GPU or CPU work for a project
11) The checkpoint value is at least every...  This doesn't mean project can't checkpoint sooner, you should request on the project forum.
12) It is per computer for all projects, it adjust the "Additional work buffer", day should be your best guess for the amount of max work you want.
13) Simply adjust the width of the column you don't need to 0 and it's gone.
11)I understand that but BT should not show a checkpoint warning colour change before write to disk every.......seconds time have passed after last checkpoint.I have setting write to disk every 999 seconds but I see checkpoint warning colour change sometimes even after 5 seconds of last checkpoint.

It is better in 1.18 but still you get chance of resetting values of processor usage to 100%,network upload, download speed to 0.0 etc. I get this on both win 7 sp1 and ubuntu 11.4, on win 7 machine it is set for 2 days work or 80 tasks and ubuntu set for 1 day or 20 tasks in the computers tab.
Is there any way to reproduce it? Is there any pattern, because I can't reproduce it.
It comes up in random.May be linked with changing tasks/days in computer tab.Yesterday after posting above message I restarted my windows 7 and within 10-15 minutes this happened.
After that within a few minutes it happened on Linux Ubuntu 11.4 virtualbox which is also running 1.18 32 bit with wine.
Also,I will like to ask that why installer installs only 32 bit in wine whereas wine documentation says it will install 64-bit program if OS is 64 bit.I am running ubuntu 64 bit in virtualbox.

Yes,It has something to do with no. of tasks/days in computer tab.I just changed this on my Windows virual PC running windows XP sp3 32 bit and after some time the processor usage,% time processor usage was at 100 %,network upload, download rate was 0.0 and transfer cap was 0.0 and days work on network tab of boinc preferences was also 0.

Hope this can help.

First of all I try to remove more known bugs that I add new features.
And a lot of bugs never show up on any of my own computers. Or it is a feature I almost never use. So I depend on others to report them.

1) That part of the program hasn't changed in a long long time. This sort of behavior is typically computer related.
I tested it with Chrome (my own setting), Firefox and IE.
2) Added to the list.
3) On the bug list.
4) A recent request,  Day = total number of tasks you got in the the last 24 hours.  Week = same but in a week the second number is week/7 .
5) Added to the list, but most of us want to see all messages. The overhead / memory is pretty low.
6) The text not active is added when the rule is not longer active. So a rule is triggered, but after a time the trigger is gone and the rule is removed from the active list.
7) The crash files are automatically removed, so no need to remove them manually. But they shouldn't be there in the first place. There is no way to auto upload them, because there are too many folks out there that have bad intentions.
The only way to send them to me is by using dopbox or some relate program. http://www.efmer.eu/forum_tt/index.php?topic=338.0
Thanks for your prompt reply.
4)Should it not be per project than the computer ?
5)We can have the provision to group messages older than 24/48 hours etc.Same kind of grouping can also be applied for history as with project having smaller WUs it is very long to scroll.
8.Also the tab function is not working in correct order in Extra-Boinc Preference-Network as after download and upload rate it skips the transfer cap and number of days and goes directly to connect every ...days.

9.Shall appreciate if we can have a shortcut to report tasks immediately feature on/off as sometimes it is required.
10. There is no way to adjust GPU debt and tell boinc not to check tasks for gpu/cpu from a particular project as it keeps checking gpu tasks from non gpu project which I feel is a waste of resources and adding additional load on server and computer.
11.I do not feel comfortable whether it is respecting the checkpoint warning settings with respect to write to disk every .....seconds. as I do see checkpoint warnings colour change even after 2 minutes whereas settings are for 999 seconds.
12.On the compures tab there is a setting for wanted tasks for no. of days work and no. of tasks but I couldnot figure out whether it is per computer or per project or which one will take precedence i.e. days or no. of tasks.
13.Also there is no provision for computer tab column settings as many people may not be using port or tt throttle.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.18

Hi Fred

I am using this program for a while and comes up with various version very fast with new features. However, with due respect I will like to submit that the program should be thoroughly checked from basics as there are many bugs getting into this are not even get noticed very often.
1.When I right click and select any webpage to open projects, tasks, history etc as well as when going BTasks help and clicking on forum page or Boinc website to opeen, the internet explorer gets launched after a very long delay, however when I launch through windows media player help meu it gets up very fast.In earlier versions of Btasks I never noted such delay.

2.There is no provision I can find in colours options enabling me to change the colour for missed tasks in History tab.

3.Also ,in the baloon over the taskbar icon it does not update the number of tasks runnuing .i.e. if I started with 25% CPU (2 Cores) and then later changed to75% CPU (6Cores) it will still show 2 tasks running in the baloon over taskbar icon.
4.I could not find the use of tasks and tasks/week/day columns.
5.There is no way to limit the number of messages other than to restart the program.
6.The text in the log rules seems a typo mistake as it shows "not active" which I believe should be now active.
7.I will appreciate if we can find a better way other than ticking on start silently on crash as One day I noticed that in the crash folder there were more than 10 files of total size bigger than 2gb of various crash dumps and there is no way to send them to Boinc tasks as attachment to messages are generally not that large.

Hope you can look into these soon and the new versions will be free from these bugs.

All of the % bars are completely filled in no matter what percentage is used.

Projects: Share %, Tasks: Progress % and CPU %, Transfers: Progress %
No idea, works correctly for me (BT 1.17 + BOINC 6.12.34) also displays all bars fully filled. (I was blind I suppose.)
Yes I also noted that (BT 1.17 + BOINC 6.12.33) the progress /% bars are not progressive.

I have some issues with BT 1.16 . It reset boinc preferences for upload speed, download speed and download cap after some time on its own to 1,1,1 etc and write to disk after to 3 seconds .
I tried this on windows 7 64 bit sp1 and ubuntu 11.04 32 bit. Behaviour is same. :o

Update: I observed that this happens when the network setting connect after xx days is altered.

I was wondering if it is even possible to create a rule that looks at my credit for each of the projects
I don't think it can be done, it's about what the current share % should do.
There are so many thing to take into account, like deadlines.
You could tinker with the debt of projects... But I know the whole debt system will be changed when they find a better way.
Hi Fred
How can I change the debt in boinc tasks for the projects ?
