Wish List / Status column doesn't show all possibilities
February 22, 2021, 01:28:51 PM
The status column correctly shows running, ready to report, etc.  But I have a task that says "waiting to run" when in Boinc manager it actually says "Postponed: VM Hypervisor failed to enter an online state" - this is a common error in Kryptos@home when Virtualbox gets stuck.  I need to know when that happens, as although it says "postponed" it never continues it and I have to abort that task or it will never do it and never get more work from the project.

Based on 3h+ of testing I found the following below.
Thanks for all the input they sure are helpful.

I changed the domain name to show the hardware
Connect to BoincTasks and change the number of cores that are allowed to run and things like user active.

For local control I do have an upcoming BoincTask for Android.
Is there any way to name a phone?  My Windows PCs are called by the Windows network name when I view them on a project, but my phone is mt6735 - not very human friendly.  Can I change this in the system somewhere, or can Boinc for Boinctasks name itself?  In Berkeley Boinc for Android, you could specify the name.

The problem, the numbers are much much higher than I expected anyone to use.
Fixed 1.85
Oops sorry.  I do that to make rare projects like CPDN that hardly ever have work take over the machine when stuff is available.
Expect the unexpected, anyway it should work in 1.85, I tested 10,000,000
Yes, working fine thanks. I don't suppose you could introduce the ability to do a 4th tier sorting?  AFAIK there's only 3 at the moment.

Added in V 1.84
It doesn't seem to work right.  It's behaving as though there's another sort above it, but I can't work out what.  I added the share% column, and only sorted by that (I removed the ^2 and ^3 with shift and ctrl).  If I sort by anything else like memory usage, it sorts correctly.  Sorry, rather large screenshot follows, I have a lot of computers and monitors :-)

Quote from: Corsair on December 04, 2020, 11:12:19 AMthe price of electricity is an average and depend of the tariff there is one that is called "last resource" and is government controlled and is for all people that doesn't want the market fluctuations uses to be for long time costumer contracts and another one that companies more or less forces to use that is "market prices" and fluctuates nearly everyday but companies uses to offer you, if you pushed them, can make a "good price".
more or less there are two terms, fixed one that is about 50 €/two months & consumption that could be among 0.12 & 0.18 €/kW (tax included).

also have to consider that salaries in Spain still not at European level, so, is expensive for our incomes.
Fluctuating every day?  They can't do that with me, I refused to let them install a "smart meter".  I can only pay one single tariff (actually two, I have a dual tarriff meter, for day/night/weekend etc, which they aren't currently using).

And you pay more than the UK?  I thought ours was absurd, I pay 0.18 Euros per kWh.
0.18 if pretty cheap, think California $.40 when you use a bit more than average. Expensive and not reliable, like now they threaten to switch off large areas because of the fire hazard (lack of rain).
Yes I've heard about that.  But I was told it was per time of day.  Because they've gone mad with solar power, there's more power when there's less usage, so it ranges from 15 to 50 cents per kWh depending when you use it.  The power companies are actually using huge Li Ion batteries to store the energy, which must be very wasteful - Lithium is a finite resource.

Hi Hucker,

;) :o, really very nice suggestion!!

in Spain would be the most expensive heating system ever done, the price of the electricity is one the the most expensive in Europe, but could try  ::)

nice Xmas present  ;D
Isn't Spain hot?  You'd need a special CPU that produces cold.  I know a guy in California that has to run AC and Boinc at once.

And you pay more than the UK?  I thought ours was absurd, I pay 0.18 Euros per kWh.

I couldn't find a better place to suggest this, but if anybody wants to try, I think it would be possible to use Tthrottle to control your room temperature, and run Boinc to heat your home.  I'm not going to do it myself because I want Boinc to run as much as possible, but for those trying to save money by doing two things at once:

Find a sensor on your computer(s) (say a motherboard sensor well away from the CPU/GPU, could be called ambient, use HWinfo as an external option so you can choose which sensor), physically locate it and make sure it's got a good draught of air from the room (add a fan blowing onto it if necessary).  Set Tthrottle to the temperature you want the room to be.  As the room cools below this temperature, Boinc will run more and more.  When the room is warm enough, it stops Boinc altogether.

"+ Missed by BoincTasks but retrieved from the BOINC client latest finished task buffer."
That makes sense, one of them was a Primegrid task, and they seem to report immediately on completion, so it vanished before Boinctasks could see it.  I guess the other ones were too.

I know this may be an odd thing to ask for, and maybe I'm the only one that wants it, but if you could add a tickbox to allow adding a column to show the project's weight, so I can sort by it, I'd be extremely happy :-)  I'm attached to 13 projects, some a lot higher weight than others, so it would be nice to see the important ones at the top of the list.
Like the Share% in the Projects tab?
Yes, that's the one.  I wanted to put my high priority projects at the top of the task list.  They're currently in alphabetical order.

It's a very rare thing, and I think is related to overloading a computer.  I get weird stuff happening with LHC tasks as they use a lot of RAM, disk space, and internet bandwidth, and use Virtualbox which is taxing on the CPU.  The error "postponed" I think only occurs when it can't allocate a slot directory for a task, because it's already occupied.  All I could find is this:
A lot of things can go wrong in a Virtual box. It's probably easier to use a Linux program that way.
This is something you have to ask the project. They probably do something wrong, maybe something crashes.
LHC use virtualbox so everyone is using precisely the same OS version etc, otherwise they get differing results from work units and they can't verify them easily.  I only get the weird stuff happening if I ask too much of the computer.  One time it was because an old hard disk had a couple of correctable errors on it, and therefore wasn't responding fast enough and the LHC tasks got fed up waiting.  Another time it was simply not enough RAM, they can need 2GB each, and with 24 cores and only 36GB, it ran out.

Questions / What is "reported OK+" in history?
November 28, 2020, 12:09:20 PM
If I look in the history tab, I see many tasks as "Reported: OK" in the status column, but the odd one says "Reported: OK+".  What does the + signify?

https://boinc.mundayweb.com/wiki/index.php?title=What_do_Suspended,_Waiting_and_Postponed_mean%3F

"Postponed: waiting to acquire lock
This message means that a previous task is still occupying the lock file in the slot directory. BOINC cannot continue with this task until that slot directory has been vacated. Try to reboot, that usually stirs things loose. Used in BOINC 7."

Maybe you can find something in the source code to do with slot allocation and lock files?
