Meaning of wanted task in computer display?

What is  the meaning and usage of the wanted tasks field in the computers display in BT 50?

If you place anything in the field and return to tasks display it is blanked out until the next update  period.

It  also caused the preference override file to read on every computer, regardless of which computer you place a number in the field on the computer  display.

My guess is that they are not new fields. Please, read "WU regulator" section in the manual (http://www.efmer.eu/boinc/boinc_tasks/manual.html) which I think explains those fields. Although, I have never used them so don't know if they work or what they end up doing in the end..
