Remote Read Error

I have often maybe a similar problem I do not understand. When I take my work notebook at home, then I've two machines (WinXP with BOINC 6.11.7 and Win7 with 6.11.6 and BT 0.74) on a network (with internal DHCP server with a couple of days long IP lease). I've occasionally inserted their IPs into remote_hosts.cfg, but they are changing occasionally, so the only thing what stays there correct are their names (say Desktop and Laptop).

When I start the Laptop, it can take hours and the Laptop's BT can not attach to Desktop's client (because it can a) not recognize Laptop on the network and b) machine with unallowed IP blah.blah.blah.blah is trying to contact the Desktop's client). BT's "reconnect every ..." is set to 710, but I'm trying to lower it. Does not help.

Finally when I open the cmd window on Desktop and type in "ping laptop" and on the laptop's cmd window type in "ping desktop", in a while the Desktop's BT can successfully see the other machine's client.
