Questions / I can't add another client, I feel stupid.
February 17, 2016, 04:12:38 PM
I'm trying to connect to a Windows Vista machine, and whether I run the toolbox or try to add the remote machine manually, I have no success. In the Toolbox at the client end, all the ticks that should be there are fine, excepting the RPC value, which tells me "RPC access restricted to computers in the host file". At the other end, "Find Computer" shows the remote machine, but the selection box is greyed out.

Attempting to add the machine manually similarly fails to connect.

I'm frustrated by this, and would love some guidance, as I feel I'm missing something obvious. As far as I can tell, the firewall at the remote PC is set correctly.

I seem to be forever cursed by anything BOINC, as I've also forever failed to get the VirtualBox to ever run! Thanks in advance for reading, and for your advice.

FAQ / Re: Rules

Thanks! That just leaves me to figure out how to make a rule apply to just one application, rather than just a whole project!

Darn! I was hoping to use the rules to abort one particular kind of application, on a project that does not allow me to choose which to download.

And presumably I have to create a separate rule for each computer? No wildcards?

It sounds like all I do is complain, but honestly, this is a minor niggle in an otherwise great app!
I just tried it, when you leave out the computer name (blank), the rule applies to all computers.
You can check the rule log for all triggered rules.

Maybe I should change blank into *.

Status rules:

A rule must have a valid computer and project name. An Application name will be ignored.

Well, maybe not taking away, as doubtless some people have use for it. The "PING" whenever I click something is driving me crazy. I'd love the option to not have the noise.

Although now, I can think of something I'd like to see.

How about the ability to hide all but the workunits actually running? Possibly filters for paused and waiting. Unless I've missed how to work the filter widget.
