I've been using version 1.16 for a long time because it worked like a charm. Now, out of nowhere, there is a problem. When I go to the Projects tab the update, project suspend, project update, no new tasks, allow new tasks selections don't work any more. I thought upgrading to a new version might help. It didn't. I haven't changed any of my settings so I have no idea what caused the selections to stop working. If I switch to the Tasks tab everything works fine. Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is a password problem.
A system restart may help.
You did update to version?

nanoprobe

No passwords are used and other than the problem on the Projects tab everything else works fine.
I did restart Windows. Didn't help.
Updated to version 1.46

Go to Show->Logging and check "Enable debug mode".
Restart BoincTasks.
Seek out this line: Computers ---- localhost get local password:
The password should be the same as in: C:\ProgramData\BOINC\gui_rpc_auth.cfg

Check the Messages tab and see if there are any errors when you try to use the functions that won't work.

There are no errors in the messages when trying to use the functions that don't work.

There is always a password, it's here C:\ProgramData\BOINC\gui_rpc_auth.cfg
Simply copy it to the password field in the computer tab. This works most of the time.

The problem is that the folder C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ isn't accessible by BoincTasks.
This may be fixed by trying to open the folder, sometimes this works.

I edited the gui_rpc_auth.cfg config file and removed the password on all hosts. You'll have to trust me that there are no passwords used. I've been using this configuration for years without issues.

The C:\ProgramData\BOINC\ folder is hidden by default. I have Windows set to show hidden files so I can open it and edit config files as needed. Like I said earlier I have not changed any settings. This problem started for no apparent reason.

Did you install a new BOINC version?
Something did happen, because it doesn't work anymore.  :o
Did you check the BOINC Messages for anything like refused, or any other error message.

nanoprobe

I switched to another host with BoincTasks and it works fine so somehow the one with problems somehow got corrupted. There are no error messages in the Boinc event log. The version of BOINC I'm using was updated weeks ago. When I get the chance I'm going to do a complete uninstall, delete all the folders, clean out the registry and try a fresh reinstall. I give you a heads up with results when done.

OK let me know if you have any problems.

Hey nanoprobe, I know it has been a while but did the total uninstall work to fix this problem for you?

What problem do you have.
Try putting the localhost password into the password field of the local machine.
Sometimes the password file can't be read.

nova4005

Thank you for the reply Fred, I tried putting the password in like you suggested and it did not fix the problem with being able to use the buttons in the projects view.  It has been like this for a while and it could have been caused when I updated my boinc client version, but it has been so long now I can't remeber completely.

I like boinctasks so much better than boinc manager and the features it has and would like to get this working again as well, and any suggestions you have I would like to hear.  Thanks again for the help.

1) Use the latest BoincTasks version.
2) Remove the password from the password field for the localhost.
3) Go to Show->Log and check "Enable debug mode"
Restart BoincTasks.
4) Go to Show->Log and look for the line:  localhost get local password:
5) If there is a password error, BoincTasks can't access the log file.
6) Restart BoincTasks, but start it with the right mouse key as Administrator.

7) Give me the log, so I can take a look at it.

fred

I made a small tool: http://www.efmer.com/download/boinc/AddToGroup.zip

It will grant you access to the boinc folder where the password file is located.

Run the program as administrator (right mouse).
In the left bottom type in your user name and press "add user"

Restart BoincTasks.
