do a basic calc when work unit arrives, then let it count down. (months:dd:hh:mm:ss) or (ddd:hh:mm:ss).
could help with deadline warnings

yep that's it. but the same column, either deadline(date) or deadline (timeto)

The same column, just a user-definable format. Well, considering once a feature-full application... it indeed does have sense. Sometimes it can be more straightforward to compare number of estimated work hours with hours to deadline, as with a datetime.
(Maybe just with lower priority than my ideas?  )

The priority is only an indication. Sometimes I pick one high and low, or whatever.

dskrbt, thanks for the idea. Now I'm using just this relative (countdown) time format for deadlines. (And on my slow host, I've mostly negative values there )
