Hello everyone!

Here's what's happening: I've been noticing this occurring in the later versions (of BT) and was hoping it would be fixed as each successive version was released. Because it appears that it hasn't tells me this may be a local problem and not a BT issue, but I thought I'd share and see if others of you have experienced this.

Ok, so, I have BT running (version 1.27 currently). All appears fine and normal initially, I have several systems all displaying that they are connected and processing tasks. After awhile (I haven't tried getting a closer idea of time involved here, I apologise), The task data disappears from my display. If I check the Show / Computers display, the systems show connected, however, I cannot see information for tasks, projects or history. Exiting and restarting seems to help initially, but the issue returns shortly thereafter. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the interface receiving user input (screen changes, etc.), since this seems to occur during long intervals of 'user' idle time (overnight or between checks during the day).

I'm running BT on an Acer One with a dual core Intel Atom processor running at 1.6GHz with 1GB RAM. There does not appear to be any resource issue, nor does there appear to be any communication or throughput issues on the network.

What do you think?

What do you think?
Some info: BOINC version?
In the computer tab make sure you remove the 0 in the Group column (delete it), that is when you don't use groups.

Enable the computer sidebar: View->Sidebar computer selection checked.
The only moment the view normally goes blank is when the computer isn't selected.
Select All computers.

If this doesn't help:

Go to C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\examples\log copy the file log.xml to C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log.
Open notepad as administrator (right mouse) and open C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log log.xml.
Change:       <connecting>         1   </connecting>

This shows some more info in the logging (BoincTasks Show->log)
Next check the "debug logging" in the logging.

Now restart BoincTasks.
Send me the logging when the problem occurs.

JeffL-NH

Some info: BOINC version?
It's a range at this point. From 6.10.17 to 6.12.34

Boinc is not running on the system that BT is on.

I made the changes to the log file, however, I assumed you meant for me to change the 1 to a 0 in the connecting line. Is this correct?

Debug logging is checked.

1 is corrects.
Should show the retries etc. in the logging. And should show if a connection is lost.

JeffL-NH

Ok, I changed it back to '1', then restarted BT.

BTW, this is a clean install of BoincTasks.

Ok, I changed it back to '1', then restarted BT.

BTW, this is a clean install of BoincTasks.

Here's what I have:
Go to Extra->BoincTasks Settings WWW and remove all checks, unless you intentionally activate them.

For some reason I don't see this:

Go to C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\examples\log copy the file log.xml to C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log.
Open notepad as administrator (right mouse) and open C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log log.xml.
Change:       <connecting>         1   </connecting>

Did you check "debug" in the logging window? Did you place the log.xml in the right folder? And did you restart BoincTasks.
And.... the logging misses all the interesting stuff.
But what I can see is there is a connection, the BOINC version is a bit older that I test at the moment.
Is see updates, so data is read, there should be something in the tabs.

JeffL-NH

All checks have been removed in www tab

I have verified that the log file is in C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks and that the Connecting line reads 1.

What tabs are you referring to?

All checks have been removed in www tab

I have verified that the log file is in C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks and that the Connecting line reads 1.

What tabs are you referring to?
Extra->BoincTasks Settings->WWW remove all checks.

I did say: C:\Program Files\eFMer\BoincTasks\log log.xml.
That means BoincTasks\log NOT BoincTasks

But back to basics, the tabs are empty, what happens when you click on a computer in the left Computer sidebar?

Whoops! I'm terribly sorry, yes, it's in ~BoincTasks\Log now!

My guess is that one of the computers may cause the problem.
In Computers check only the localhost and if things go OK try adding computers one at a time.

JeffL-NH

Since my last post, I've decommissioned 6 systems (the older ones), with no change observed. I also updated BT to 1.29 and this also had no effect. Currently there are 4 systems that are down-level with the Boinc software that I'm working to upgrade. I also removed Boinc software from the system that I use to run BoincTasks (a laptop), which again, has had no effect.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Try 1.30.
It may be one of the computer connections that is causing the problem.
When this happens check the logging and see if anything is show.
Like:
Not closed down properly
Or
Thread timeout, will restart

Yes I have had a smililar issue.

Also running BT (1.16) on a laptop without BOINC. Clients are all 6.12.34 (and one 7.0.6). All running Win7 x64. Usually happens if a machines is off/not running BOINC and then I bring it back online. The computers tab shows it as connected, but nothing in other tabs for it. A restart of BT seems to fix it.

As for upgrading BT to 1.25 that had another problem. I will start a separate thread about that.

This may also be fixed in 1.30.

It certainly seems to be fixed in 1.30. I still have the occasional drop out (where a connected computer seems to drop off), but it seems to come back on the next refresh.
