Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.43

I'm going to be away today, but I'll see if I can make a report in the next 24 hours.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.43

For the first time, I am having problems doing the update from recent to latest version (1.42 to 1.43). I suspect it was because I looked at the list of changes before doing the actual update (automatically as administrator).

I ended up with two windows asking me if I wanted to do the update. I closed one (and most likely it was the 'wrong' one) and ended up with warning windows telling me that some vital (AND RUNNING) processes could not be updated. Checking Task Manager showed me that I eventually had several instances of the program all running (and taking large amounts of system resources).

I was eventually able to do the update after I closed down all of these instances.

Fred, I  wonder if you have any idea what caused this to happen and hope that my report will be of some use.

Hi Fred, it wasn't until I was about to make a suggestion that the points be added to the floating date to make the whole graphic more complete that I noticed that you have already included this feature. I don't know how I managed to miss that. It has certainly removed the need for any guestimation when judging the performance increase in adding GPU calculation to my WCG rig.

I just wanted to come back and congratulate you on this very useful addition. Non-beta testers are going to be very impressed, I am sure!

OK, thanks for that clarification.

Would it be possible to have it report on betas like BT? This would be greatly welcomed.

1) Hoover over the "point" in the graph.
2) The Transfer graph need BOINC V 7, otherwise it says "No data".

1) So the tooltip is the 'date' shown when resting cursor on the nodule, yes? A very nice feature!

2) Thanks for clarifying the need for BOINC v7. This explains why I am not seeing any data.

I did a check for update from TT 6.1 and this beta was not detected even though BT successfully managed to notify me that it existed.

I'll do a manual update on this machine and leave the rest to see if the 'quick update' feature becomes available.

Quote-Add: Credit graph, tooltips.
I can't find this

Quote-Changed: Initially the toolbars are now next to each other.
Thanks for this. It has been my preference and when there is a system hiccup, the toolbars always moved back to the old way of separate lines. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Quote-Changed: Tasks tab, speed improvements.
Wow. I always thought that it was my fault for increasing the amount of machines. Now micromanagement is back to real time, so it is definitely a major improvement. Many thanks for this

Quote-Fixed: Credit/Tasks/Transfer graph: The timeline is sometimes slightly off.
Thanks also for the nodules on the Credit Graph lines. Much easier than referring to the x-axis when wanting to discover a particular date.
One thing I have spotted is that the Data Transfer Graph is blank. Maybe it is an oversight in my settings?

D'Oh. I feel so dumb for missing that!

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I wonder how difficult it would be to allow TThrottle Core setting to be edited directly from BoinTasks. I appreciate that this would require a two way communication and don't even know if a remote communication could be run as an administrator.

Maybe this would be too much of a security risk at the remote end, but it would make sense to be able to change the setting especially if you saw that the remote machine was running hot.

Hi, Fred. Just a minor niggle, but all the same at first confusing. The message about this update reports it as being released May 2011.

Beta Testing / Re: BT 1.27 - Toolbars on one line

Quote from: fred on November 18, 2011, 10:58:09 AMExiting in the task bar is the same as file->exit. That's the point when it's saving window positions and tool bars.
That is what I would have expected, but following on from your suggestion, settings appear to being saved which wasn't the case before when I did it in two stages.

I can only surmise that at least in my case, doing it 'the old way' was causing shut down not to be performed cleanly. In future, I will try both methods and report back if the inconsistency I reported returns.

Thanks, fred. I had never thought to do a complete shutdown with | File | Exit |. I had been attempting to do the same in two stages, 1 shut down BT with X and the shut down from task bar.

I have followed your suggestion and will monitor to see if problem occurs again.

Beta Testing / BT 1.27 - Toolbars on one line
November 17, 2011, 06:48:02 PM
I have been running BT from the first version I tried with Selection Bar, Toolbar Operation and Toolbar Graphic bars all on one line and have never had a problem even when upgrading from one version to another. However with 1.27 (and perhaps 1.26), when I reopen the window either from minimised or simply opening the program, I am finding that the three bars are being shown on three lines.

Is anyone else noticing this?

Beta Testing / BT 1.26
November 08, 2011, 05:23:21 PM
First chance to test the inbuilt update function (1.25->1.26)

Things went very fast and smoothly. I was worried about having to configure the update to run as Administrator, but see that this is done as part of the update procedure. Congrats on a job well done!

Now to test some of the new features...

The gadget stated something like

Running=0
Connected=0
You mean the gadget or the icon message?
The computer tab should show all connected computers.
The popup message which displays when the cursor is over the taskbar icon.

If a box is connected to BT but not running any WUs, the gadget popup does not count it as being connected until it is actually running tasks. If all machines are not running any tasks then the popup would say 'Connected=0'. To me, this implies that BT is not connecting successfully to the machines which in fact it is. I understand why it is reporting '0', but shouldn't this be more the function of the Tasks part of the report?

If it were to report something like

Running: 0,0=0
Connected computers=2

Then the user would be able to see that 2 machines are not running any tasks and would prompt him to restart the tasks. As it is, it simply looks as if no computers are connected which could lead the user to follow a different course of action (i.e. trying to reconnect when working connections actually exist).

I hope I am making myself clearer now  ;)
